EVANSVILLE, Ind. -- Six errors proved too costly to overcome in Miami University's baseball team's 14-4 loss to the University of Dayton in Game Three of the Aces' Diamond Classic Saturday afternoon (March 3) in Evansville, Ind. The setback ended Miami's three-game winning streak and marked the Flyers' first win of the campaign.

After Miami gained a 1-0 lead in the first inning, Dayton answered with five runs in the second and third frames to take a 5-1 advantage. Miami starting pitcher Korey Kirkpatrick (Aurora, Ind./South Dearborn) allowed all five runs to suffer his first loss of the season.

Miami (3-4) added a run in the third and two in the fifth to close the gap to 5-4. Leading the offensive charge was center fielder Clark Mace (London, Ohio/Madison Plains) who collected a run, hit and RBI during the comeback.

The rally was short-lived, however, as Dayton (1-6) scored three unearned runs off three RedHawk errors in the sixth to grab a commanding 8-4 lead. The Flyers added a single run in the seventh, thanks to two wild pitches and an error, and five more in the ninth on only three hits and two errors.

Third baseman Jason Knoedler (Springfield, Ill./Springfield/Lincoln Land C.C.) enjoyed a solid day at the plate for the RedHawks, going 4-for-5 with two runs scored.

Miami closes out the Diamond Classic with a tilt versus the University of Iowa. First pitch is slated for 11 a.m. Sunday in Evansville.
