TUSCALOOSA, Ala. (Feb. 18) -- Coming off a disappointing 2-1 loss Saturday night to Alabama, Miami University's baseball team fell for the third time in two days to the 14th-ranked Crimson Tide, dropping a 9-2 decision Sunday afternoon in Tuscaloosa.

Miami fell behind 3-0 in the second inning as starting pitcher Russ Bayer surrendered three unearned runs. Following an error by Jeremy Ison, Grant Redding doubled home the game's first run. Alabama plated two more runs on a sacrifice fly and a two-out single.

The Crimson Tide added four more runs in the fourth inning to take a commanding 7-0 lead. Jeremy Brown hit a two-run homer to left field and Peter Stonard and Brent Boyd each added RBIs in the inning.

Alabama extended its lead in the next two innings, scoring once in each of the fifth and sixth innings. Brown hit his second long ball of the game, a solo shot again to left field, in the fifth frame and Aaron Clark scored on an error in the sixth to complete the Crimson Tide scoring.

Miami finally got on the board in the seventh inning, scoring twice and cutting the lead to 9-2. Ison led off with a double to left-center field and Tom Yost followed with a walk. One out later, Andi Scheidt roped a single to left field, allowing Ison to score the RedHawks first run. Jason Knoedler then singled home Yost, but that would be the last Miamian to cross homeplate.

Jason Knoedler and Ison both finished with two hits apiece, while Scheidt, Brady Nori, Justin Knoedler and Zach Schmidt each recorded a hit for the RedHawks.

Bayer (0-1) suffered the loss on the mound for Miami, working three and one-third innings, giving up six runs, and striking out one Alabama batter.

Miami (0-3) is back in action next weekend as it hosts Ohio Dominican on Saturday and Ohio Wesleyan on Sunday. Both games are scheduled to start at 2 p.m. at Stanley G. McKie Field.
