OXFORD, Ohio - The weather decided to cooperate after a 2:30 rain delay on Sunday afternoon as the Miami University (20-16, 7-5 Mid-American) baseball team finished off a weekend sweep of conference foe Buffalo (9-17, 2-10 MAC) with a 14-3 victory at McKie Field at Hayden Park. The RedHawks coasted to their eighth straight win over the Bulls after crossing the dish nine times in the fourth inning.

The RedHawks scored the game's first runs in the second inning when junior Michael Carlin (Pittsburgh, Pa./Mt. Lebanon) and freshman Paul Frietch (Montgomery, Ohio/Moeller) both reached base to start the frame. The first of five mishaps in the game for Buffalo allowed Carlin to cross the plate when sophomore Ryan Edginton (Chester Springs, Pa./Arizona State) grounded into what should have been a routine 6-4-3 double play. Edginton ended up at second base after the second basemen's throwing error. The Miami lead increased to 2-0 when junior Andi Scheidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/LaSalle) singled home Edginton.

Junior southpaw Chris Leonard (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) held the Bulls at bay through to the third inning when they touched the RedHawk ace for a single run. The Red and White tacked on three more runs in the third frame off a three-run blast by Carlin, and were greeted in the fourth frame by two more Buffalo runs to cut the deficit to 5-3. This is all that Buffalo would score of Leonard as the left-hander pitched six innings and struck out six Bulls' batters.

The flood gates opened on Buffalo in the fourth stanza as the RedHawks batted through the order en route to scoring nine runs. Scheidt led off the inning with a double down the left-field line. After the Bulls converted a routine ground ball for the first out of the inning, junior Zach Schmidt (Cincinnati, Ohio/McNicholas) was plunked by a pitch followed by a balk putting men on second and third. Both Scheidt and Schmidt crossed the plate when junior David Cook (Columbus, Ohio/St. Francis DeSales) ripped a two-RBI single up the middle. Freshman Sam Sellery (Carmel, Ind./Cathedral) singled through the right side, and junior Mike Galloway (St. Thomas, Ontario/Central Michigan) followed with a walk. The Red and White scored seven more runs in the frame getting plenty of help from the Bulls who committed two errors, one passed ball and two wild pitches. Sophomore Josh Widlansky (Coral Springs, Fla./Travella), who was making his first start at the hot corner, was "Mr. Hustle" for the RedHawks hitting a two-RBI single and scoring from second on a wild pitch.

The damage was done in the fourth frame and the RedHawks coasted to the 14-3 triumph as Leonard put zeros up on the scoreboard in the fifth and sixth frames. Miami relievers freshman Jim Knytych (LaGrange Park, Ill./Lyons Township) and junior Adam Keel (Fairfield, Ohio/Fairfield) also blanked the Bulls over the final three innings. The victory evens Leonard's record at 2-2 while Buffalo hurler Mark Garrard falls to 1-2.

Their first MAC-series sweep since the Akron series last year, the RedHawks hope to ride this four-game winning streak into two mid-week matchups against Wright State and Cincinnati on Tuesday, April 23 and Wednesday, April 24, respectively. A live gamecast of the Wright State contest will be available on Miami's web site, www.MURedHawks.com, via the schedule/results link on the baseball page.
