Box Score

Bradenton, Fla. - The Miami baseball team tried to rally behind strong pitching but fell just short, losing to Bucknell University, 4-2, at the IMG Academy in Bradenton, Fla.

After falling behind 4-0 after five innings, the RedHawks broke out of their slump in the seventh, cutting the Bison lead to two with a two-out rally. Freshman catcher Jon Franzese got the rally going with a double to left center. Following a walk by Zach Schmidt, senior David Cook drove in Miami's first run of the game with a single down the left line, scoring Franzese. Pinch hitter Andi Scheidt kept the rally going one batter later with a RBI single to left.

After getting out of the seventh, Bison pitching limited Miami to just one more baserunner the rest of the game. Freshman Sam Shorts (0-1) took the loss, giving up four runs in five innings and striking out six. Junior reliever Mike Gardner took over for Shorts in the seventh and finished the game, holding Bucknell scoreless over the final three innings and striking out five.

The RedHawks close out their Spring trip tomorrow in Florida with a doubleheader versus Rhode Island, beginning at 1 p.m.
