Final Stats

ORLANDO, Fla. - Miami claimed a 4-2 win over the University of Connecticut on Monday afternoon at Chain of Lakes Stadium in Orlando, Fla.

Tyler Melling (Bellefontaine, Ohio) earned the victory. The win is the second of his career and the first of the season for the sophomore. Melling went 8.0 innings and gave up only two runs while striking out five.

Connecticut took the early lead with a run in the top of the third inning but Miami evened the score in the bottom half of the inning. Miami took the lead in the bottom of the fourth on back-to-back doubles by Chris Nadeau (Saline, Mich.) and Zak Hatfield (Fort Wayne, Ind.). Hatfield came around to score later in the inning on a Brad Gschwind (Cincinnati, Ohio) ground out to give the RedHawks a 3-1 advantage. Miami put the game out of reach with another run in the fifth on another Nadeau double that scored Jordan Petraitis (Canal Fulton, Ohio).

The RedHawks will be back in action tomorrow  against Vermont at 4:00 p.m. at Chain of Lakes Stadium. The Catamounts are 0-6 on the season and are coming off a 3-2 loss at Mississippi.
