Swoop
Born and raised in Oxford, Ohio, Swoop has been a lifetime fan of Miami Athletics.
When Swoop was born in the Spring of 1972, there was quite a buzz surrounding the next few seasons of Miami University football. Starting that season, Swoop made sure he had a bird's eye view of every football game.
After the '72 season, Miami would win the Tangerine Bowl three times in a row and Swoop made the flight to Florida for the game every year. Ever since then Swoop has been hooked on Miami University Athletics. Whether it was flying overhead for a baseball game or perched upon the rafters in Millett Hall, Swoop was in attendance at every Miami Athletics event that he could be.
As the years passed, Swoop's loyalty to the school never wavered, but he just wished there was some way that he could become even more involved with the school. Swoop tried volunteering for Miami's teams, and he even tried working at games, but he still wanted to do more.
Then, in 1997, that opportunity came knocking. This was the year that Miami changed its mascot and officially became the RedHawks. With the name change, Miami would need a new mascot. Swoop thought this would be the perfect chance for him to become a bigger part of Miami Athletics. The University took one glance at Swoop, and knew they had their new mascot. Ever since then Swoop has been appearing at Miami home games to pump up the crowd and help the RedHawks to victory.
Swoop is as happy as he has ever been and the University could not be happier with their new mascot!
