OXFORD, Ohio - After sharing the Millett Hall court as part of a basketball doubleheader Saturday, senior forward Julian Mavunga and junior guard Courtney Osborn share Miami Athlete of the Week honors Tuesday, as Mavunga is the Male Athlete of the Week and Osborn the Female Athlete of the Week for the week of Dec. 12-18.

Julian Mavunga

Mavunga (Indianapolis, Ind.) had one of his best all-around performances Saturday to spearhead Miami to a 66-61 win over a very good Belmont team and to halt a four-game losing skid. Mavunga posted his fifth double-double of the season and 19th of his career with 17 points and 10 rebounds and added two assists and two steals in 34 minutes of action. Much of what Mavunga did to catapult Miami to the win does not show up in the stat sheet but was critical to the RedHawks' win with good passing to help get his teammates involved and solid leadership. He knocked down 12 free throws and moved into 10th on Miami's career made free throw list. Mavunga continues to average more than 20 points and 10 rebounds per game, numbers that are among the best in the nation. He was one of just three players in the country entering the weekend to average such numbers and was the only among the three to average 2.0 apg.

Courtney Osborn

Osborn (Fishers, Ind.) was Miami's leading scorer in both games last week, as the RedHawks defeated a pair of local rivals. She scored 50 points on the week, averaging 25.0 points per game, on 16-for-36 shooting (44.4 percent). In Tuesday's win over Wright State, Osborn scored 27 points on 10-for-21 shooting. She nailed four three-pointers and pulled down a season-high seven rebounds. She also set a career high with seven steals in that game and handed out four assists with just one turnover. In Miami's win over Cincinnati on Saturday, Osborn followed up with 23 points, including a 10-for-11 performance from the free throw line that sealed the victory. She had three assists, four rebounds and a block in that contest, as well. For the week, she averaged 5.5 rebounds per game, 3.5 assists and 3.5 steals a game while averaging just two turnovers per contest.

Osborn was also named MAC East Division Player of the Week for her efforts. This is her third time claiming Miami Female Athlete of the Week honors this year while it is Mavunga's second such award this season.

Osborn and the rest of the women's basketball team already defeated Northeastern Monday night, 75-55, to extend its win streak to four games and is now off for the holidays until hosting Chicago State on Wed, Dec. 28 at 7 p.m. Mavunga and the men's team are back in action tonight (Tuesday), hosting Evansville at 7 p.m. at Millett Hall before taking on No. 2 Ohio State at Nationwide Arena in Columbus at 8:30 p.m.
