OXFORD, Ohio - The Miami University Athletic Department announces the beginning of Super Fan Week, starting today, Friday, Nov. 9, and going until Friday, Nov. 16. With several of the biggest games of the year all taking place, RedHawk fans are encouraged to be a major part of the action.
One constant throughout the week will be the attire of the Miami cheering sections. All Miami fans are asked to wear white to all of the games in a show of support for the MAC East Division-leading football squad, top-ranked ice hockey team, and defending MAC Tournament Champion men's basketball squad.
The puck drops on the week when the No. 1 ranked Miami RedHawk ice hockey team hosts CCHA-rival No. 12 Notre Dame on Friday night at 8:05 p.m. at the Goggin Ice Center. The hockey action continues when the RedHawks host the Fighting Irish again on Saturday night at 7:05 p.m.
MU students attending the Friday's game against ND will receive a free authentic ice hockey T-shirt.
Sunday night will be the official tip-off event for the 2007-08 men's and women's basketball season. Miami Madness will begin at 7 p.m. at Millett Hall. MU students will have the chance to shoot a half court shot for free textbooks from DuBois Bookstore and can also take part in a student slam-dunk contest with the winner receiving a private party at BW3's.
Miami University president David C. Hodge will be on hand to take his "Shots for Charity", which will benefit the United Way. The most creative contest of the night will be the Coach Coles Look-a-Like Contest, while free raffle prizes will be awarded to students wearing Miami gear.
Tuesday night, the Miami men's basketball squad opens the regular season at home against fellow NCAA Tournament qualifier and local rival Xavier. The RedHawks and Musketeers tip off at 8 p.m. at Millett Hall.
Wednesday night, the RedHawk football team will host Akron at 7:30 p.m. on ESPN2. Miami is tied for first place in the MAC East and will look to continue their trek toward the MAC Championship Game with the help of a "white out" crowd of raucous supporters.
