OXFORD, Ohio - Andrew Marlatt, head coach at Loveland High School for the past seven seasons and a standout defensive player for Miami University in the 1980s, has been named as the RedHawk football staff's special teams coordinator, Head Coach Don Treadwell announced today (Feb. 25).

Marlatt, a 1988 Miami graduate, will be the fifth alumnus to serve on the RedHawks' full-time staff. He joins Miami alums Treadwell, Mike Bath, Ron Carpenter and Jay Peterson on the 2013 coaching staff.

"Coach Marlatt brings tremendous experience from many angles since he has been a head coach for a number of years," said Treadwell. "His passion for the game is very strong and we look forward to him providing great leadership in his role of special team's coordinator.  Adding another Miami football man to our program, especially a three-time All-Mid-American Conference selection, will serve our team well. We are very pleased that we have been able to attract a quality coach from the greater Cincinnati high school area. This was something that is very important to the growth of our program."

Over the last seven years, Marlatt has built the Loveland Tigers football program into a consistent winner. Loveland has finished in the top half of the FAVC/ECC the past four years and has competed successfully against perennial Cincinnati power house programs Winton Woods, Turpin, Anderson, Lebanon and Kings. Prior to his seven years as head coach at Loveland, Marlatt was associate head coach at Sycamore High for nine seasons, assistant coach at Kings High for three seasons, and assistant coach at Fairfield High for three seasons.

From 2001-05, Marlatt served as Director of Football Operations for the Anthony Munoz Youth Football Academy in Cincinnati.

Prior to his coaching career, Marlatt was a very successful player. As a prep as New Jersey powerhouse The Hun School of Princeton, he was recruited by Miami University's Tim Rose. From 1984 through 1987, Marlatt was one of Miami's most outstanding defensive players. As a defensive tackle, he earned All-MAC honors three times, including first-team honors as both a junior and a senior. His 52 career tackles for loss is still tied for fourth on Miami's all-time list. Miami won the MAC title in 1986 and was conference runner-up in both 1985 and '87. Marlatt received Miami's Keith Swailes Award in 1986, emblematic of his enthusiasm, loyalty, intensity and football knowledge. At the 1986 California Bowl, he was named Defensive Player of the Game.

In April of 1988, Marlatt signed as a free agent for Coach Tom Landry's Dallas Cowboys and played in three pre-season games that fall. Marlatt later played in the Arena Football League and was a member of the Washington Commandos (1990), the Columbus Thunderbolts (1991) and the Cleveland Thunderbolts (1992)

"I am excited about the opportunity to coach football at my alma mater," Marlatt said. "Miami University has an outstanding tradition and I am excited to be a part of that again. I am grateful to Coach Treadwell for the opportunity and I look forward to meeting the players, working with the coaches, and preparing the special teams units to perform at the highest level possible."

Marlatt's family includes his wife, Karen, and three daughters, Lauren, Sarah and Grace.
