REDHAWKS RETURN HOME TO HOST UIC SATURDAY AT 1:30 PM: For the first time in a month, Miami University's men's basketball team returns to the friendly confines of Millett Hall as the RedHawks host UIC at 1:30 p.m. on Saturday, Dec. 22. Miami seeks to snap a four-game losing streak and move to 3-0 on the season at home but faces a tough challenge in UIC, which is 9-2 on the season, winning eight of its last nine. This is the second straight Horizon League opponent for the RedHawks and will be the third MAC foe for the Flames. Saturday's game marks the second meeting between the teams with the RedHawks winning the previous meeting on Nov. 21, 2006, 72-61.

HOME SWEET HOME: Miami head coach John Cooper often talks about importance of protecting your home court, and the RedHawks have done that thus far in 2012-13 with a 2-0 record at Millett Hall. Four RedHawks are averaging double figures in Millett Hall, led by freshman guard Reggie Johnson's 20.5 ppg. As a team, the RedHawks have shot 45.7 percent from the field, 40.0 from 3-point range, averaged 9.0 treys, out-rebounded opponents by a 5.0 margin and posted a +9.5 turnover margin on their home court. Miami is averaging 78.0 ppg and allowing its opponents just 56.0 ppg in home games.

SEARCHING FOR 70: In Miami's three wins, the RedHawks have surpassed the 70-point plateau, but in their five losses MU has failed to hit the 70-point benchmark. Miami averages 76.0 ppg in wins and 57.0 ppg in losses.

ABOUT THE FLAMES: UIC was riding an eight-game win streak until falling at Western Illinois on Tuesday, 70-54. The Flames primarily use a seven-man rotation with seven players seeing action in all 11 games and averaging at least 13.7 minutes per contest. Three players are averaging double figures in scoring, led by Gary Talton's 12.5 ppg. Daniel Barnes follows at 12.1 ppg, while Hayden Humes chips in 11.5 ppg and a team-leading 5.9 rpg. Barnes and Humes are long-range threats, knocking down 28 and 22 treys on the season, respectively. Talton boasts a 3.0 assist/turnover ratio and entered the week ranked 12th nationally in the category. Entering the week, the Flames ranked fifth nationally in scoring defense, seventh in turnovers per game, ninth in 3-point field goal percentage defense and 10th in field goal percentage defense.

SERIES WITH UIC: Saturday marks the second meeting between Miami and UIC with the RedHawks holding a 1-0 advantage in the all-time series. The last time the teams met was in Oxford on Nov. 21, 2006, with Miami posting a 72-61 decision. Miami's Nathan Peavy led all scorers with 18 points, while Monty St. Clair posted a game-high 10 rebounds and Alex Moosmann dished out a game-best 10 assists. Director of Basketball Operations Sean Mock was in his first season as a player with the RedHawk squad.

SPECIAL OFFERS FOR SATURDAY'S GAME: Saturday is one of three McFamily and Friends Days with a ticket package that includes four game tickets and four McDonald's Extra Value Meals for just $44 (pre-purchase only; not available on game day). These packages can be purchased by calling the Miami Athletic Ticket Office at 513-529-4295 or through www.MURedHawks.com. Miami then hits the road for a 7 p.m. game at Buffalo on Saturday, Jan. 12 before returning home to host Bowling Green at 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Jan. 16.

Junior guard Quinten Rollins' double-double (10 pts/10 asts) against James Madison was the first point/assist double-double by a MAC player this season. His seven steals against Grambling State are the most by a MAC player in 2012-13.

Rollins leads the MAC in assist/turnover ratio (2.6), ranks 3rd in assists (4.7) and 4th in steals (2.0).

Junior guard Allen Roberts ranks 12th in scoring (12.2), 4th in free-throw percentage (.860), 14th in 3-point field goal percentage (.366) and ties for 14th in 3-pointers (1.7).

Freshman guard Reggie Johnson ranks 28th in scoring (9.8).

Junior forward Will Felder ranks 6th in field goal percentage (.500), ranks 10th in defensive rebounds (4.2) and ties for 14th in blocked shots (0.9).

Junior forward Jon Harris ties for 29th in scoring (9.6), 14th in rebounding (5.2), 14th in 3-pointers (1.7) and 14th in offensive rebounds (1.9).

As a team, Miami ranks among the top four in the MAC in steals (8.4, 3rd), assists (13.7, 4th), turnover margin (+2.4, 4th) and 3-point field goals (6.9, 4th).

  • Make Miami 3-0 at home this season.
  • Snap a four-game losing streak.
  • Give UIC back-to-back losses for the first time this season.

  • Even the all-time series at 1-1.
  • Be Miami's fifth-straight loss.
  • Give the Flames a 10-2 record.

Miami's four-game home stretch from De.c 22 to Jan. 9 is the RedHawks' longest since hosting four-straight games from Feb. 12 to Feb. 22, 2006. The RedHawks were 4-0 during that stretch, including wins over Akron and Ohio, a double-overtime win against Ball State and an ESPN BracketBuster win over Illinois State.

Despite an increased number of turnovers in its last few games, Miami continues to hold a +2.4 turnover margin against its opponents and is averaging 17.7 ppg off turnovers.

Junior forward Bill Edwards is out for the season after sustaining a torn ligament in his left knee just minutes into Miami's game against James Madison on Nov. 24.

The RedHawks' win at William & Mary was their first road win against a Division I non-conference opponent since defeating Northwestern State 69-68 on Dec. 30, 2008.

Senior center Vince Legarza and junior guard Quinten Rollins are team captains for the 2012-13 season.

The RedHawks set a program record for steals in a game with 22 take-aways against Grambling State on Nov. 13, eclipsing the previous record of 18 which was achieved twice (vs. DePauw on Dec. 4, 1991 and vs. Centre on Dec. 2, 1985).

Junior guard Quinten Rollins tied a single-game record for steals with seven against Grambling State. He equaled the Miami record set by Chuck Goodyear against Toledo on Jan. 11, 1976, by Ron Harper against Marietta on Dec. 1, 1984 and by Damon Frierson against Ball State on Feb. 27, 1999.

In the RedHawks' three wins, Miami has outscored its opponents by a 19.0 ppg margin, surpassed the 70-point mark in each game and compiled a +9.3 turnover margin. As a team, Miami has amassed 52 assists, committed 37 turnovers and recorded 36 steals in its wins.
