ANN ARBOR-Miami University's senior and junior synchronized skating teams had a strong showing on the first day of the Dr. Richard Porter Classic. After their short programs, the RedHawk senior team leads their division by more than six points, while the junior team is less than a point out of second place in third place.

To their short program themed Dance Macabre, the senior team posted a score of 48.24 with a total element score of 22.08 and a total program component score of 27.16. The RedHawks had one deduction but still hold a 6.18 edge over the second-place Crystallettes (42.06). Starlights follow closely behind with a short-program score of 42.00, while California gold sits in fourth place at 37.98. Skyliners (36.72), Western Michigan (31.48) and Team Excel (20.70) round out the senior division field, respectively, heading into Sunday's free skate event.

Skating their short program to Devil with the Blue Dress, the Miami junior team compiled a score of 40.56 to sit in third place heading into Sunday's free skate event. The RedHawks trail second-place Skyliners (41.40) by a mere 0.84 points but hold just a 0.54 edge over fourth-place Chicago Jazz (40.02). Synergy leads the junior division field with a score of 48.24 for its short program. Saint Louis Synergy is in fifth place after the short program with a score of 35.16, followed by Les Supremes (33.34), Hockettes (32.34) and Team Delaware (27.36).

All three RedHawk teams will be in action on Sunday with the conclusion of the Dr. Richard Porter Classic.
