OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University men's golf coach Zac Zedrick announced the signing of two student-athletes to National Letters of Intent on Friday. Greg Conrad (Barrington, Ill./Barrington) and Jared Hammons (Marietta, Ohio/Marietta) will begin play for the RedHawks during the 2013-14 season.

"What excites me about both Greg and Jared is how much they've improved in such a short period of time," said Zedrick. "It's a testament to their work ethics and desire to be better than they were the day before. They're both looking to contribute immediately, which is something I love. Being a freshman is only a title within our program, not a limitation on the impact you can make to our success."

Conrad was a four-year letterwinner for Barrington High School. He had a career scoring average of 75.6 strokes per round and qualified for the state tournament in both 2011 and 2012. This summer he tied for third in a US Open local qualifier, which allowed him to participate in a US Open Sectional Qualifier against several PGA Tour pros. He also qualified for the 2012 US Junior Amateur.

"Greg has gained a ton of experience at the national level in the past twelve months," said Zedrick. "To make it through local qualifying for the U.S. Open and qualify for the U.S. Junior in the same year is something that very few high school level players can say they accomplished. He's incredibly organized, was a great mentor to his teammates at Barrington and has the combination of physical skill sets and mental strength to compete at a high level."

Hammons was a four-year letterwinner for Marietta High School. He led the Tigers to both the 2011 and 2012 ECOL League Championship, and was the ECOL Player of the Year in both seasons. Hammons had a 73.2 strokes per round average as a senior and was named Southeast District Division I Player of the Year as a junior in 2011.

"Jared's the type of player who's literally just scratching the surface of what he can accomplish," said Zedrick. "He's always had the length and ball-striking capabilities, but the strides he's made inside 100 yards in the past four months is a testament to how much he invests in his improvement. He loves to compete, is very intelligent in his approach to his preparation and loves being on a team. He'll fit well in the culture we're building here in Oxford."

While these two will not begin play until the 2013-14 season, the 2012-13 edition of the RedHawks will resume their spring schedule Feb. 11-12 when they participate in the Mid-American Match Play event.
