OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University sophomore setter/outside hitter Meg Riley was named to the 2012 Capital One/CoSIDA Volleyball Academic All-District V Division I First Team, the College Sports Information Directors of America announced Thursday.

To qualify for a CoSiDA academic award, a player must have a 3.30 GPA or better and be a significant contributor to the team. By earning first-team honors, Riley is now eligible to earn a spot on CoSIDA's Academic All-America Team that will be voted on later in November.

Riley leads the RedHawks with 336 kills, an average of 3.36 per set. She is fifth on the team with 182 digs and second on the 'Hawks with 430 assists. A six-rotation player, she is in the setter position when in the back row, and becomes an outside hitter in the front row. Riley's ability to do just about everything on the court has allowed her to record eight triple-doubles on the season. Arguably her best performance came in a three-set victory over Eastern Michigan on Oct. 13. Despite the quickness of the match, she had 22 kills, 20 assists and 10 digs in the win. Riley is hitting a team-leading .273 for the season.

Riley is performing just as well in the classroom. Despite a difficult double-major of mechanical and electrical engineering, she carries a 3.94 GPA. She has twice been named Mid-American Conference Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week this season.

This is the second straight season that Miami has had a volleyball player selected to the CoSIDA Academic All-District Team. In 2011, Jenn Caylor was named to the Second Team. Riley is the first player to earn First-Team honors since Tara Buroker in 2003. The last Miami player to earn Academic All-America status was Jessica Stout in 1997.

Miami will host Bowling Green later Thursday at 7 p.m. That will be Senior Night with Amy Kendall, Christina Menche and Lisa Treadway being honored in a pre-match ceremony.
