RedHawk Season Review for 2012

Miami (4-5 overall, 3-2 MAC) still is still in contention for the the 2012 MAC East title, but must win its last three regular season games. Two of those three MAC games are at home-Kent State (5-0) and Ball State (3-2)-while its lone MAC road game is at Central Michigan (1-4).

With four victories (vs. SIU, UMass, Akron and Ohio) and five losses (at currently No. 6 Ohio State, at Cincinnati, at No. 19 Boise State, at Bowling Green and at Buffalo), Miami is seeking to stay undefeated at home in 2012 (3-0).

Statistically, among all FBS teams, Miami's offense ranks 30th in passing (283.4 ypg), 115th in rushing (92.9 ypg), 83rd in total offense (376.3 ypg) and 91st in scoring offense (23.1 ppg).

Miami's defense ranks 75th in passing defense (248.1 ypg), 115th in rushing defense (231.6 ypg), 110th in total defense (479.7 ypg) and 102nd in scoring defense (34.4 ppg).

The composite record of Miami's first nine opponents (OSU, SIU, BSU, UMass, Akron, Cincinnati, Bowling Green, Ohio and Buffalo) is 45-38 (.542) ... the current combined record of its last three opponents is 17-10 (.630) ... in Miami's four victories, its offensive unit is averaging 34.0 ppg and has gained 468.3 ypg, while its defense has yielded 24.8 ppg and 478.3 ypg ... in Miami's five losses, its offensive unit has scored 15.0 ppg and has gained 302.8 ypg, while its defense has yielded 40.2 ppg and 480.8 ypg.

QUICK HITS

Miami's 25 seniors and their families will be introduced to the crowd prior to the Kent State game.

Since 2010, Miami's football team has a combined record of 6-3 in MAC home games. The RedHawks' averaged winning margin during that time span has been 13.1 points per game, while its average losing margin at home has been 13.7 ppg.

Miami attempts to be a giant killer for the second straight home game in Mid-American Conference play, taking on Kent State (8-1, 5-0 MAC), a team just 36 points shy of being included in the AP's Top 25.

With 242 yards passing last week at Buffalo, quarterback Zac Dysert became Miami's career passing yardage leader, toppling Ben Roethlisberger after nine years in the top spot. Dysert's total of 10,997 yards is168 yards more than Roethlisberger's career total of 10,829. Now in 41st place on the NCAA FBS all-time passing yardage list, an 18th 300+ game would move Dysert past Georgia's Eric Zeier (37. 11,153 yards), Purdue's Curtis Painter (36. 11,163) and Tennessee's Peyton Manning (34. 11,201).

Six MAC teams are already bowl eligible and Miami needs two victories in its last three games to join Northern Illinois (9-1), Toledo (8-1), Kent State (8-1), Ohio (8-1), Ball State (6-3) and Bowling Green (6-3) in that category. Two of Miami's final three games will be played at Yager Stadium (vs. Kent State and vs. Ball State) and one will be played on the road (at Central Michigan, 3-6).

Miami's football team has held its own in the first half of games this season, being outscored by a count of 118 to 132, but its points total in the second half has been disasterous, showing the RedHawks trailing by a combined total of 90 to 178. In its three home games against Southern Illinois, UMass and Ohio, Miami has combined for 48-24 and 32-26 advantages in the first and second halves, respectively.

Miami has an all-time record of 269 wins, 144 losses and 11 ties in Mid-American Conference games. Its winning percentage of .647 is tops among all MAC schools.

Miami has been more offensively successful in its first nine games of 2012 than through a similar span in 2011. The RedHawks are averaging 376.3 total yards per game this season as compared to 349.8 total yardsper contest last year. Miami is averaging 23 points per game so far in 2012, compared to a 22.2 ppg in 2011.

Twelve true freshmen have seen playing time for Miami in 2012, a total that's tied for ninth, nationally. LSU, Texas, TCU and Ohio State have all played 15 true freshmen. The RedHawk rookies who have played in this season include Bryson Albright, Brandyn Cook, Orlando David, David DeLeon, Josh Dooley, Kent Kern, Bryce Lehwald, Kaleb Patterson, Wesley Scott, Marshall Taylor, Jamire Westrbook and Mitch Winters.

This year's Football Banquet will be held on Sunday, December 2nd, at 11:30 a.m. The general public is invited to attend. Tickets for the banquet at the Shriver Center are $25 for adults and $15 for children 4-to-12-years-old. Contact Miami's Athletic Ticket Office at 513-529-4295.
