FARMINGTON HILLS, Mich. - Just
one week into the season and the Miami hockey team is already collecting awards
as sophomore forward Blake Coleman was named CCHA Postgame Offensive Player of the
Week, the Central Collegiate Hockey Association announced Monday.
Coleman (Plano, Texas) had a
huge opening weekend to lead the RedHawks to a season-opening sweep of Colgate
last Friday and Saturday. He scored three goals while adding an assist in the
two games for a four-point weekend. Friday, he scored a pair of goals for his
third career multi-goal game, including the first goal of the game and the
season, which was the game-winner in the 3-0 shutout. His second goal of the
night he scored unassisted. The physical center was the No. 1 star in Friday's
game.
In Saturday's 5-1 win over
the Raiders, Coleman again notched multiple points with a power play goal and
an assist on Miami's third goal. It was his first time recording back-to-back
multi-point games as he did not record back-to-back multi-point games all of
last season. Coleman now has seven multi-point games for his career. He posted a +2 rating Friday and a +1 rating
Saturday for a +3 rating on the weekend while also firing nine shots on goal.
Although early in the season,
Coleman leads Miami with three goals and four points. He is tied for first in
the country with 1.50 goals per game and tied for third nationally, averaging
2.00 points per game.
The CCHA Postgame Offensive Player
of the Week honor is the first of Coleman's career though he was named CCHA
Rookie of the Week once as a freshman last year.
Coleman and the RedHawks are
back in action this weekend, hosting Providence in a non-conference series
Friday and Saturday at Steve Cady Arena. Puck drop Friday is at 7:35 p.m. while
Saturday's contest is at 7:05 p.m. Tickets can be purchased here.
