AKRON, Ohio - The Miami University men's golf team stands in 15th place after shooting a round of 14-over par 302 on Monday. Due to an early morning frost and course conditions, the Firestone Invitational has been reduced to a 36-hole event, one round of 18 holes both Monday and Tuesday. This has left the teams tightly bunched, as the RedHawks are only six shots out of eighth place. Ball State leads the tournament at six-under par.

Redshirt junior Mark MacDonald put together a great round in difficult conditions. He recorded two birdies and only one bogey in shooting a one-under par round of 71. He is tied for 10th place overall, three shots out of the lead.

Senior Brett Tomfohrde had the next best round for Miami on Monday. He shot a four-over par 76 and is tied for 58th. Freshman Daniel Schwarz is right behind him in a tie for 64th after shooting a five-over par 77, while sophomore Luke Shaughnessy is tied for 74th after shooting a six-over par 78. Freshman Jack Sparling is tied for 88th at 11-over par.

"We're pressing too hard and it's really that simple," said head coach Zac Zedrick. "I don't doubt how badly the boys want to play well, but we have to do a better job of channeling that desire into staying in the moment, having fun and letting good things happen. I think we'll be alright tomorrow."

The Firestone Invitational will conclude with one final round of 18 holes on Tuesday weather permitting.
