Miami at Cincinnati Game Notes

Oct. 6, 2012 · Nippert Stadium · Cincinnati, Ohio

General Notes

  • Wide Receiver Dawan Scott joined season-long captain Zac Dysert, Jaytee Swanson and Andy Cruse for the coin toss.

  • Cincinnati won the toss and elected to defer. Miami received the opening kickoff, the sixth time in as many games this season that it has opened with possession.

  • Miami has now lost seven straight to the Bearcats, dating back to 2005 when the RedHawks posted a 44-16 win at home. Overall, Miami stands 59-51-7 against UC, including 43-40-5 in the Queen City. The RedHawks have dropped four straight on the road against the Bearcats.

  • Despite being the visiting team, Miami wore its red uniforms. The Bearcats asked permission to wear white as part of its Homecoming "White-Out".

  • Nick Harwell returned to the Miami lineup after missing three games with a leg injury.

  • The 52 points scored by Cincinnati equalled the most by either school in the series. The Bearcats earned a 52-42 win over Miami in 1999.

Team Notes

  • Miami scored a touchdown on its opening possession for the second straight game. In the first four games, the RedHawks' first drive resulted in three punts and a lost fumble.

  • Cincinnati defensive back Camerron Cheatham's first quarter interception return for a touchdown was the first by a Miami opponent since the 2010 season opener, Sept. 4 at Florida. Janoris Jenkins took a pick 67 yards to the house for the Gators.

  • The four Miami turnovers were a season high and most for the RedHawks since committing six against Ohio on Oct. 23, 2010. The previous high this year was three, the same number that Miami had in the first quarter on Saturday night. The RedHawks suffered two interceptions and a fumble lost at Ohio State.

  • Miami was successful on its third two-point conversion of the season late in the first half, when Zac Dysert scrambled into the end zone. The first two makes were via the pass.

  • Miami used 57 players -- of the 68-man travel squad -- during the game.

Individual Notes

  • Zac Dysert became the 78th player in NCAA Football Bowl Subdivision history to top 10,000 career passing yards on a 12-yard toss to Dawan Scott midway through the first quarter. He finished with 10,246 to end the game ranked 66th. Some of the quarterbacks he passed on Saturday were Cade McNown (UCLA/10,008), Glen Foley (Boston College/10,042) and Eli Manning (Mississippi/10,119). Dysert's current total ranks ninth in MAC history.

  • Zac Dysert finished the day with 303 yards, the 16th time in his career that he has topped the 300-yard mark.

  • Zac Dysert threw a pair of quarter interceptions, the second time this year (joining Ohio State) that he has been picked off twice. The initial one was returned for a touchdown, the first time an opponent returned an interception for a touchdown since the 2010 season opener, Sept. 4 at Florida, when Janoris Jenkins covered 67 to paydirt after a pick.

  • With two touchdown passes Saturday, Zac Dysert moved into a tie for 14th on the Mid-American Conference's career touchdown list. He is tied with Western Michigan's Alex Carder (2009-present), who also has 61, but missed today's game due to injury.

  • Nick Harwell caught a touchdown pass in the second quarter, the 17th of his career. His only other scoring catch this season came against Ohio State in the season opener.

  • Dysert pooch punted midway through the second quarter, his third kick this season and ninth of his career.

  • Chris Wade led Miami in tackles for the fourth straight game. On Saturday against the Bearcats, he had 12 stops, one shy of his career high. Reaching double figures for the fifth straight game, he added ½ tackle for loss, a forced fumble and a quarterback hurry.
