HUNTINGTON, W. Va. - The Miami University men's golf team got its 2012-13 season off to a successful start with a fourth-place finish at the Marshall Invitational. The RedHawks shot a final round score of one-over par 284 to finish the event at 10-over par as a team. Virginia Tech was the only school to finish under par at the event, winning with a score of 16-under.

"I'm really proud of the way we finished this tournament," said head coach Zac Zedrick. "To have our best round come today on top of being four-under for our last three holes as a team is a sign we are on the right track."

Senior Brett Tomfohrde shot a one-over par 72 on Tuesday to finish with Miami's best overall score at even par. He was tied for 12th individually.

Junior Austin Kelly had the best round on the day, shooting a one-under par 70. He finished tied for 23rd overall at four-over par. Also for Miami in round three, sophomore Scott Cahill shot an even-par 71, senior Ben Peacock shot a 72 and redshirt junior Mark MacDonald shot a 74. Each of them finished in a tie for 44th at eight-over par.

"This is the way we wanted to get our season started and we are looking forward to carrying this momentum to Wolf Run this weekend," said Zedrick.

The golf team returns to action this weekend when it participates in the Wolf Run Intercollegiate in Zionsville, Ind. The RedHawks will play 36 holes on Saturday and finish with one final round of 18 holes on Sunday.
