Don Treadwell quotes from Tuesday's football press conference

Listed below are a few of the most interesting comments from Don Treadwell's first game-week football press conference of the 2012 season. Enjoy!

  • "It's that excitement of the unknown," Treadwell said referring to what gets him pumped up for the first game of the season.

  • "Our non-conference schedule may be one of the toughest we've ever had in the history of the program," Treadwell said about playing Ohio State, Boise State and Cincinnati in the first six weeks of the season.

  • "The easy way to break Ohio State down is there is no weakness," Treadwell said. "Basically you are talking about a team that has the ability to be in the top 10 every year. That's no surprise to any of us. As you look at them, they are always, up front, they are going to be big. ... They've got speed, they've got size, probably their defensive backs may look like some of our linebackers as far as just size and ability. They're strong across the front. It's a tremendous challenge because this is a tremendous team."

  • "That young man they have running the ball at quarterback is very talented, so you just have to wait, do you want him running against you or do you want him throwing against you?" Treadwell said about Ohio State sophomore quarterback Braxton Miller. "As you continue to look at the bigger picture, it's no different than Army coming in here a year ago. They are going to run because that's what they do. And that may be what Urban chooses to do with Braxton. But he is just so dynamic in my opinion it doesn't matter what they ask him to do because he is just so talented that he can create on offense."

  • "This will be kind of an unveiling to still find out who may be the guy," Treadwell said about the team's running back situation. "At this point it will be by committee. ... If it takes us to play three guys to make one great one, then we'll do that."

  • "Many of these young men on our team and Ohio State, number one, have played together, many of them on the same team, and certainly at worst have played against each other. So you have a lot of neat carryover of young men that have a little bit of history between them and they are going to be aware of each other and where they've been and that makes it a fun type of experience as it is, let alone the fact that obviously you are gong into Ohio State's stadium and that type of thing," Treadwell said. "So, I think it will be very special for our Ohio guys as they move forward and probably our older guys especially because they've been here a number of years and they've seen a lot of their teammates or guys they've played against play at Ohio State, so I think it will be very exciting for them."

  • "Right now both of them mentally are prepared to be the kicker," Treadwell said on who will be the starting kicker Saturday (Kaleb Patterson or Mason Krysinski). "It may be a game-day call. We'll see how guys do through Thursday. Friday is more on a walk-through mode. We'll watch pre-game warm up and see how we feel a young man is and how's he kicking and kind of go from there."

  • "It's nice to have a veteran group of players who pretty much have a strong idea of what needs to be done," Treadwell said.

  • "You want to be a balanced team," Treadwell said about how much he wants to pass and run the ball. "Now does that mean 50-50, it may not. I think each game presents its own challenge. You kind of have to play the game as to where you are. ... At the same time you still have to feature your strength. ... When you look back on us being so top heavy in the passing game last year, more than not because of necessity, that was our strength and we were still looking for ourselves in the run game. But now that you've turned the corner, obviously that's been a focus. Everything does start up front, as I've said many, many times. We've put a lot of onus on our offensive line. We believe that they have improved. Number one, just through time and experience. You can't take that away. You have to play the game to have a chance of earning that experience. We started two true freshmen last year. We took a little bit of some lumps in some of those games just being so raw, but again, now they're sophomores."

  • "Execute what we believe we are able to do," Treadwell said about the one thing he would like to see his players do well in the team's season opener vs. Ohio State. "We are in our program the second year now, so the anticipation is that our kids are now much more relaxed to just play the game because a year ago they weren't even sure every play if they were lining up right. ... Hopefully that will be demonstrated and our kids can just go out and play the game because they will be confident in what they are expected to do."
