OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University volleyball head coach Carolyn Condit announced the release of the 2012 schedule on Thursday. The RedHawks will play 13 home games over 12 dates, including the annual Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational. It will also feature contests against seven teams that reached the NCAA Tournament in 2011.
Season tickets are now available for the home schedule. An adult ticket for all 13 games is $36, while an 18-and-under youth ticket is $23. Single game tickets will go on sale in August. Miami students get in free with their student ID.
With Condit only one win away from 500 at Miami, and only two wins away from 600 for her career, the Red and White begin the 2012 season at the Thunder Invitational in Huntington, W. Va. Miami opens with IUPUI on Friday, Aug. 24 at 4:30 p.m. It will then take on Wright State on Saturday, Aug. 25 at 10:30 a.m., and host Marshall at 7:30 p.m.
The RedHawks will then head to the Twin Cities to participate in the Diet Coke Classic. Miami will open with Albany on Friday, Aug. 31 at 6 p.m., and then take on host Minnesota at 11 a.m. and LIU Brooklyn at 6 p.m. the following day.
Miami will open its home schedule on Tuesday, Sept. 4 when it welcomes Xavier to Millett Hall for a 7 p.m. contest. It will be the first meeting between the local rivals since the 2007 season.
The annual Miami Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational takes place Sept. 7-8. Joining the RedHawks this season will be Indiana State, Chicago State and Temple. A total of six matches will take place over the two days, with Miami participating in three of them. It will face Indiana State on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m., Chicago State on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 10 a.m. and Temple later that evening at 7 p.m.
The RedHawks final early season tournament will be the Hoosier Classic in Bloomington, Ind. Miami will open with Chattanooga on Friday, Sept. 14 at 5 p.m. On Saturday, Sept. 15, the Red and White will have matches against Valparaiso at 10 a.m. and the host Indiana Hoosiers at 7 p.m.
MAC play begins at home when the RedHawks host Kent State on Friday, Sept. 21 and Ohio on Saturday, Sept. 22. Miami will play each of the MAC East Division teams twice, once home and once away, and each of the MAC West Division teams once. Other conference matches at Millett Hall this year will feature Northern Illinois (Oct. 6), Toledo (Oct. 19), Ball State (Oct. 20), Akron (Nov. 2), Buffalo (Nov. 3) and Senior Day against Bowling Green (Nov. 8).
The top eight teams in league play in 2012 will qualify for the MAC Tournament Nov. 16-18. It will once against take place at the SPIRE Institute in Geneva, Ohio. After the tournament, Miami will conclude the regular season with a home match against Cincinnati on Saturday, Nov. 24 at 4 p.m.
The RedHawks return nine letterwinners from a team that went 16-16 in 2011 and qualified for the MAC Tournament.
