COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. – Another big Saturday performance yielded more weekly honors for Miami junior captain Austin Czarnik (Washington Township, Mich./Green Bay [USHL]).
Czarnik was named the National Collegiate Hockey Conference’s Offensive Player of the Week for the second week in a row after finishing with four points against Denver last weekend.
After notching an assist in Friday’s series opener, the junior forward erupted for three points in the RedHawks’ 4-2 win on Saturday night. Czarnik opened the scoring with a first-period goal and then assisted on the eventual game-winner with a secondary helper. After the Pioneers pulled to within a goal at 3-2 in the closing seconds, Czarnik fired the center ice faceoff forward into the empty net to secure the win for Miami.
This is the third time that the MU captain has won NCHC Offensive Player of the Week this season.
Czarnik and the RedHawks are idle until a Dec. 31 exhibition against the USA Under-18 National Team.
