OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last weekend freshman swimmer Stephanie LeMire and senior football punter Zac Murphy are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Oct. 21-27.
LeMire led Miami to a conference road win against Akron on Saturday, Oct. 26, with two individual first-place finishes and a strong performance as a member of Miami’s 200 medley relay team that finished second with a time of 1:46.56, only .28 seconds behind the first-place finishing team. LeMire then went on to win the 100 breaststroke with a time of 1:05.11 and then the 200 breast with a time of 2:22.42.
This is the first time in LeMire’s career she has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week.
Murphy, who entered the contest with Ohio leading the nation in punting (47.4), averaged 52.7 yards per punt on seven attempts versus the Bobcats. The senior had punts of 73, 65, 55 and 54 yards and downed a pair of punts inside OU's 20-yard line. Murphy had two touchbacks on the day, coming off of his 73 and 65 yard bombs. Of those seven punts, Ohio managed just 13 return yards for the afternoon.
This is the second time this season Murphy has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He previously received the honor for the week of Sept. 16-22.
