CLEVELAND—Miami University sophomore swimmer Evan Bader (Oxford, Ohio/Talawanda) was named the Mid-American Conference Male Scholar-Athlete of the Week, the league office announced on Wednesday evening.

Bader turned in one of nine first-place finishes in a balanced effort by Miami as the RedHawks posted a 130-125 season-opening win against Xavier. Bader won the 200 breaststroke in a time of 2:08.12. He bested his nearest competitor by nearly four seconds and topped the best Musketeer finisher in the event by nearly eight seconds.

Bader owns a 3.99 grade-point average and majors in chemical engineering.

This is the third MAC Scholar-Athlete award for Miami this season as Matt Marol (men’s cross country) and Jenny Ingle (volleyball) swept the Week 2 awards.
