CLEVELAND – For the first time this year, Miami University senior midfielder Katy Dolesh was named Mid-American Conference Co-Offensive Player of the Week, the league office announced Monday. She shared the honor with Akron junior forward Lani Smith.
Dolesh (Chardon, Ohio) led Miami offensively over the weekend against a pair of tough opponents, scoring three of the RedHawks’ six goals on the weekend. Of the five shots she took in the two matches, the team captain put three on target, all three of which found the back of the net for an astounding .600 shooting percentage. On Friday against Milwaukee, Dolesh played all but six minutes and scored Miami’s second goal to put the ‘Hawks up, 2-1 midway through the second half as she scored on a half-volley.
On Sunday in a double-overtime thriller against Big Ten foe Purdue, Dolesh scored two goals for just her third-career multi-goal game while she now has a team-best five on the year. She fired a team-high four shots during the match, scoring just 2:01 into the contest to give Miami an early lead. Dolesh then struck again in the 81st minute to put ‘Hawks on top, 3-2, as she timed her run perfectly and one-timed a shot with the outside of her foot into the goal around the keeper. She played all 102 minutes against the Boilermakers as Miami nearly pulled out the victory.
Dolesh has now garnered MAC Offensive Player of the Week three times in her career, with the first two times coming as a sophomore in 2011. She is also a three-time All-MAC selection during her career and became the first RedHawk to collect a weekly accolade this season.
Dolesh and the RedHawks are back in action this Sunday when Miami concludes non-conference play at former MAC rival Marshall. Kickoff is set for noon in Huntington, W.Va.
