Chuck Rey
Position: Assistant Coach
Alma Mater: Roosevelt
Graduating Year: 1996
Experience: 1 Year

Chuck Rey joins Miami as a new assistant coach for the 2013 season. Rey comes to the RedHawks from Winthrop, where he spent the past four seasons as an assistant.

"Chuck Rey brings a multitude of talents and skills to our program," said Condit. "His recruiting experience, game knowledge and teaching ability will highly benefit our team."

While at Winthrop, Rey helped the Eagles to a Big South regular season championship in 2011. As the offensive coordinator, he led Winthrop to either first or second-place finishes in a multitude of offensive categories. He trained two Big South Players of the Year and one Big South Setter of the Year.

Prior to his time with Winthrop, Rey spent a season as a volunteer assistant at the University of Minnesota, working on setter training and offensive game planning for a team that was ranked sixth in the nation during the 2008 season.  While at Minnesota, Rey was fortunate to work with 2008 and 2012 Olympic Silver Medalist, Lindsey Berg, as she returned to Minnesota to rehabilitate a minor knee surgery. In addition, he helped train a Big Ten Defensive Player of the Year. He also served as an assistant at Georgia Southern University.

Rey is very active in promoting the sport. He operates the popular volleyball coaching website, CoachRey.com, which has up to 15,000 visitors each month. Articles from his website have been published or sourced by USA Volleyball, the American Volleyball Coaches Association (AVCA), The Art of Coaching Volleyball, and a variety other volleyball publications. As a member of the USA Volleyball, Rey was a featured speaker alongside John Kessel (USA Volleyball Director of Sport Development) at a USA Volleyball Coaches Clinic. He is also a three-time featured speaker at the AVCA Convention and is the founder and chair of the First Time Attendees Committee. Rey is recognized for his in depth statistical analysis and co-created (with AVCA Hall of Fame Coach, Mike Hebert) a new volleyball statistic called In Play Efficiency (I.P.E), which is now used in many top statistical programs.

"It is a great honor to work for Coach Condit, one of the winningest coaches in NCAA history, and be part of the Miami Volleyball program that has numerous times been ranked in the top 25 nationally. I am extremely confident that Coach Condit will return the program to national prominence, but more impressed with her genuine integrity and honest character with the players and the volleyball community. I not only look forward to meeting the team, but the incredible alumni base that is Miami Volleyball and being part of Miami Athletics' Culture of Champions."

"Chuck's passion for the game of volleyball is exceptional and he is a statistical wizard," said Condit. "I also appreciate his balanced approach to coaching and his talent to build relationships. He is the perfect fit for our program and I look forward to combining talents with him to win more championships at Miami."
