West Lafayette, Ind. -- Miami's women's swimming team opened its 2012-13 season at Purdue Friday night, losing by a score of 179-109 to the Boilermakers.
Though the RedHawks didn't have any individual winners, they had numerous swimmers who swam to top three times. Senior Maegan O'Connor placed second in the 100 butterfly with a time of 41.47 and senior Stacie Clagg had the second-best time in the 200 individual medley.
RedHawk swimmers who placed third in their individual races included freshman Aubrey Kluth in the 1000 freestyle (9:54.33), senior Leah Thornton in both the 100 (58.57) and 200 backstrokes (1:34.82), senior Laura Krueger in the 200 butterfly (1:34.75), Clagg in the 200 breaststroke (2:21.35) and senior Bekka Westrick in the 100 fly (41.53).
The women swim a coed dual meet with the RedHawk men at home Saturday afternoon as both teams host Xavier. The first race begins at 2 p.m. at the Corwin Nixon Aquatic Center. There is no admission charge.
