BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Miami University senior Katie Lenahan and junior Samantha Gable fought for an NCAA Championship berth Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, held at Indiana University’s Haugh Track & Field Complex, but the duo came up a bit short in the 800m and hammer throw, respectively.
Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) placed 42nd in the hammer throw with a toss of 50.99m/167-03. She qualified 45th with her heave of 55.25m/181-3, which she threw April 8 at the Miami Invitational. Virginia Tech’s Dorotea Habazin took first with a heave of 67.51m/221-6.
Lenahan (Cincinnati, Ohio), making her third straight trip to the East Regional, finished 47th in the 800m run in 2:18.09. Tennessee’s Cheanelle Price won in 2:06.21.
The top 12 finishers in each event advance to the NCAA Championship June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa. Miami still has three more athletes competing at the NCAA East Regional as freshman Rachel Patterson runs in the 5000m at 8:05 p.m.
