CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Miami junior Riekie Honiball has been named Mid-American Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week, the league announced today.
Honiball won all four matches she played during the RedHawks' conference-opening weekend against Toledo and Eastern Michigan. In doubles, she teamed with Jessica Parr for a pair of point-clinching victories. On Friday, the duo defeated the Rocket pair 8-5 in the second match to finish. The next day, after the teams split the first two matches, the duo earned a 9-7 win over the Eagles' duo to put Miami up 1-0. Honiball and Parr are now 8-2 on the year, all during the spring season.
In singles, the Windhoek, Namibia, native posted wins of 6-2, 6-2 and 6-3, 6-3, respectively, over the two days to run her personal winning streak to three.
In other Miami tennis news, the No. 1 doubles team of Megan Martzolf and Stephanie Danesis maintained their national ranking, despite splitting a pair of matches last week. They are listed 78th in the Campbell's/ITA Rankings, down 12 slots from 66th last week.
Miami returns to action this weekend with its first conference road trip of the year. The RedHawks travel to Bowling Green on Friday before facing nemesis Western Michigan Saturday. The Broncos and RedHawks have won the last six regular-season MAC titles.
