MOREHEAD, Ky. -- Nate Bowles had a career-high three hits and three RedHawks combined for seven runs batted in to lead Miami to an 11-4 victory over Morehead State Sunday in the finale of the teams' three-game series.
Jon Edgington drove in three runs, two on a double in the fourth, while Kyle Weldon each had two RBIs for Miami (7-11).
The RedHawks jumped on Morehead State starter Garrick Whittle early, scoring twice in the first. Ryan Kaup led off with a walk before Bowles and Redeker singled to make the score 1-0. Weldon then grounded to second for an RBI.
After Morehead State (3-17) answered with a single run in the second, Miami went up 3-1 on Weldon's second home run in as many days. The Eagles responded with three in the third to take a 4-3 lead. Four straight one-out hits off starter Seth Varner forced Miami into its bullpen, but Brooks Fiala was greeted with another single to put the Eagles ahead.
From there, the RedHawks took control. Brad Gschwind and scored on a two-run double by Edgington. After a walk, Bowles made the score 6-4 with a double, then Redeker plated Kaup with a groundout. Miami added three in the seventh without a single hit, benefitting from four hit-batsman and two walks.
Weldon and Adam Weisenburger had back-to-back doubles in the ninth to cap the scoring.
Fiala (1-2) picked up his first win of the year, allowing just two hits in 3.2 innings. He struck out a career-high tying six batters. Brandon Adkins earned his first save of the season, retiring all nine batters he faced -- four by strikeout.
The RedHawks return to action this week with an home-and-home series with Eastern Kentucky. The teams meet Tuesday in Richmond, Ky. before a Wednesday night meeting in Oxford. The latter contest will be Miami's 2011 home opener after 19 straight on the road.
