OXFORD, Ohio - Miami University volleyball head coach Carolyn Condit announced Thursday the addition of Chuck Crawford as a new assistant coach. He comes from Jacksonville University, where he had spent the past season as an assistant coach and the recruiting coordinator.

“Chuck comes highly recommended and is a tremendous worker,” said Condit. “We will integrate him quickly into our recruiting process and team development. Chuck will work with our hitters and help advance our offensive effectiveness; I am confident the team will enjoy his coaching style. His past experiences have prepared him well for this position. As an alumnus, he naturally brings a special energy and pride to Miami volleyball.”

Last season for the Dolphins, Crawford was responsible for all recruiting, as well as team training, practice planning, scouting and fundraising. Prior to his time with Jacksonville, he served as a volunteer assistant at Georgia Tech, helping with scouting, practice planning and camp organization. He is a member of the American Volleyball Coaches Association, and serves on their national Assistant Coaches Committee.

Crawford has also spent the past four years working for the A5 Mizuno Volleyball Club in Atlanta, Ga. As the co-lead trainer for the club, he was the training coach for the 18-1 team and the head coach for the 18-2 team. His 2009 team was 18-2 and qualified for an American bid to the USAV Junior National Championships.

Crawford is a Miami graduate, earning his Bachelor of Science degree in health and physical education in 2001. He was a four-year member of the RedHawks’ club volleyball team, serving as team captain in 2001. A native of Middletown, Ohio, Crawford and his wife Lori have two children: Carson and Drew.

“I am excited to be coming back home to Miami University with the opportunity to work under Coach Condit,” said Crawford. “I am thrilled to be a part of a program with a winning tradition and to work with a knowledgeable staff that is highly regarded in the volleyball community. My family and I would like to thank Coach Condit and the Miami Athletic Administration for this amazing opportunity."

Miami begins its 2011 season at the Quality Inn/ASICS Classic in Terre Haute, Ind., Aug. 27-28. On Friday, Aug. 27, the RedHawks will take on Coppin State at 9:30 a.m. and Eastern Illinois at 2:30 p.m. On Saturday, Miami will face the host Indiana State at noon and Chicago State at 5 p.m.
