BLOOMINGTON, Ind. - Miami University junior Matt Rudin competed in the pole vault Friday at the NCAA East Preliminary Round, held at Indiana University’s Haugh Track & Field Complex, looking to earn a spot in the NCAA Championships.

Rudin finished in a tie for 28th in the 48-man field by clearing 4.90m/16-0.75. He qualified 26th with a personal-best clearance of 5.10m/16-8.75, which he recorded May 6 at the Billy Hayes Invitational. The top 12 finishers in the pole vault move on to the NCAA Championships as the group that did so cleared 5.20m/17-0.75.

The RedHawk men still have two more competitors left at the NCAA East Prelims as junior Nathan Hoch and freshman Rob Stein each throw in the discus Saturday at 5 p.m. The top 12 finishers in each event at the East and West Preliminary Rounds then move on to the NCAA Championships, which are hosted by Drake University from June 8-11 in Des Moines, Iowa.
