OXFORD, Ohio – In an effort to push Miami University’s Athletic Department to the forefront of digital and social content, Miami hired Chris Smith as its first Coordinator of New Media.
Smith, a 2009 graduate of Ohio University, will oversee Miami’s social media platforms, video content for both MURedHawks.com and the department’s YouTube page, enhance the gameday experience by assisting with production for video boards at football, basketball and hockey games and also oversee content on MURedHawks.com.
"Chris is going to help take our social media experience at Miami University to a new level," said Dave Meyer, Assistant A.D. for Communications. "We have lacked in this area for some time, and I have no doubt our fans are going to enjoy what is coming."
No stranger to the Mid-American Conference, Smith spent the past two years working as Bowling Green’s Assistant Producer of In-Game Entertainment. He created all content for video boards at Doyt Perry Stadium and the Stroh Center for, produced intro videos for the Falcons’ football, men’s and women’s basketball and volleyball teams and managed stadium events at numerous events that included the 2012 NCAA Women’s Basketball Tournament, 2013 NCAA Hockey Regionals and a visit from President Barack Obama at the Stroh Center.
In addition to his duties at BGSU, Smith spent three years as the Cleveland Browns’ Content and Production Intern. He created TV spots, fan features and game day packages for the 2011 NFL season, edited in-game features at Browns’ home games and managed stadium events such as press conferences, fundraisers and the Cleveland Browns’ Draft Party.
During his undergraduate years at Ohio, Smith also worked as a director and production assistant for WHIZ Media Group. He resides in Oxford.
