OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week baseball senior first baseman John Crummy and softball sophomore designated player/pitcher Jenna Modic are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of May 5-May 11.
Crummy recorded at least one hit in all four of the RedHawks’ victories over the past week, recording two multi-hit performances to boot. The senior scored Miami’s first run in an eventual victory over Big Ten foe Ohio State during midweek play. He then contributed a hit and a sacrifice fly in a one-run series opening win at Buffalo. The senior saved his best for the end of the week, going a combined 6-for-7 with three doubles, a home run, four runs scored and three RBI to secure the RedHawks’ sweep of the Bulls, which vaulted them into first place in the MAC East entering the final week of play. Crummy did not strike out once in 14 plate appearances and slugged a robust 1.167 for the week. He also was named MAC East Division Player of the Week.
This is the first time this season and second time in his career that Crummy has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He previously earned the honor for the week of Feb. 27-March 4, 2012.
Modic hit .333 during her time at the MAC Tournament last week in Akron. She had a double and walk, leading to an on-base percentage of .429 and a slugging percentage of .500. Modic’s double down the left field line against Ball State drove in two runs on Wednesday.
This is the second straight week Modic has been named Miami Female Athlete of the Week.
