OXFORD, Ohio – For their performances last week senior men’s basketball player Bill Edwards and senior diver Nikki Craft are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Jan. 6-12.

Returning to the floor for the first time in over a year since suffering a season-ending knee injury, Edwards had a great performance for the RedHawks against Western Michigan on Jan. 11. Edwards poured in a career-high 24 points off 8-of-15 shooting, including 4-of-7 from 3-point range, and hit all four free-throw attempts. He also chipped in five rebounds, two assists and one blocked shot in 24 minutes of action. Edwards drained two key 3-pointers with under five minutes remaining to give Miami their first leads of the game and help push the game into overtime. He also hit the game-tying jumper with seven seconds to go in the extra period.

This is the first time this season and second time in his career that Edwards has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He last received the honor for the week of Nov. 14-20, 2011.

Craft helped the women’s swimming and diving team to its sixth consecutive win this past week with a pair of wins in the diving competition. The RedHawks would down the Cincinnati Bearcatts 177-119. Craft would finish first of five competitors in the 1-meter diving competition with a point total of 307.95 and also captured individual honors in the 3-meter competition with a score of 322.28.

This is the first time this season and second time in her career that Craft has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week. She previously earned the honor for the week of Feb. 20-26, 2012.
