Last Week: The Miami University football team named Chuck Martin the 36th head coach for the Red and White on Tuesday, Dec. 3 and held an introductory press conference on Wednesday, Dec. 4. (Watch)
Last Week: On Monday, captain Austin Czarnik was named the NCHC Offensive Player of the Week after eclipsing 100 career points thanks to a career-high five assists at Bemidji State on Nov. 30. (Release) Line mate Riley Barber was placed on the USA Junior National Team's preliminary roster for the upcoming World Junior Championships in Malmo, Sweden. (Release). On the ice, the Red and White split their conference series against Denver. MU outshot DU 34-12 in Friday's opener, but the Pioneers won 3-1 on the strength of two late goals 53 seconds apart in the first period and an empty net goal with 10 seconds remaining. Alex Wideman netted the RedHawks' lone goal. (Recap) Barber (1g, 2a) and Czarnik (2g, 1a) notched three points apiece to help MU avoid a sweep in a 4-2 win on Saturday. Jay Williams made 19 saves for his first win since Nov. 2. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are off from their regular season schedule until Jan. 10, though they do play the USA Under-18 National Team in an exhibition on Dec. 31 at 4 p.m.
Last Week: Bolstered by 26 points from senior forward Will Felder and 23 points from junior guard Will Sullivan, Miami erased a 16-point deficit and defeated IPFW, 94-87, last Tuesday for the RedHawks’ first win of the season. (Recap) Sophomore guard Reggie Johnson scored 21 points, his third 20-point effort of the season, but it was not enough as Miami fell at Evansville on Saturday, 78-65. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks host Wright State at 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 15.
Last Week: Miami got back on the winning track with a pair of big victories on the road. The RedHawks went on a 9-0 run in the final two minutes of its game on Wednesday, punctuated by a layup from senior guard Hannah Robertson to give Miami the lead, as it went on to defeat Youngstown State, 70-67. (Recap) On Saturday, Miami had its best offense output of the season as junior guard Kindsay Brandt’s career-high 23 points led the RedHawks to a 76-66 victory over Northern Kentucky. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle this week. The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday, Dec. 17 when they travel to Long Beach State for a 10 p.m. (EST) start.
Men’s Swimming & Diving
Last Week: Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team finished second at the Miami Invitational. Denison won the invitational scoring 2,584.5 points. Miami earned 1,468 behind a great team effort (Recap). This Week: The RedHawks will not compete again until Jan. 9 in a dual meet versus Cincinnati in Oxford, Ohio.
Women’s Swimming & Diving
Last Week: The Miami women’s swimming and diving team finished first at the Miami Invitational in the Nixon Aquatic Center. The RedHawks finished with 2,332 total points after three days of competitive swimming. They defeated Illinois (1,704.5 points), Denison (1,388 points), Emory (1,374.5 points), Cincinnati (856 points), Ball State (711 points), Wright State (454 points) and Urbana (97 points) (Recap). Next Week: Miami returns to action on Jan. 3 in a dual meet versus James Madison.
Last Week: All three teams competed at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic. The RedHawk senior team captured a first-place finish for the third straight year at the event. Miami’s collegiate team posted a second-place finish, while the junior team improved to a sixth-place finish in the overall standings after Sunday’s free skate. (Recap) This Week: Miami is off until the junior and senior teams compete at the Junior World Qualifier/Foot of the Lake Classic in Fond du Lac, Wis., Jan. 3-4.
Women’s Indoor Track & Field
Last Week: Miami had a strong start to its 2013-14 season at the IPFW Mastodon Opener, hosted at the IPFW Athletics Center Saturday. The RedHawks won two running events and one field event in their indoor season debut. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle this week and will not return to action until Jan. 17 for the Kentucky Invitational.
