Football

Last Week: Miami scored two touchdowns in the third quarter, but 28 second-quarter points by Ball State University were too much to overcome as the RedHawks fell, 55-14 at Scheumann Stadium on Friday afternoon. (Recap) This Week: Miami’s season is concluded.

Ice Hockey

Last Week: The No. 12/13 RedHawks went unbeaten (1-0-1) while snapping a four-game winless streak (0-3-1) over the weekend at Bemidji State. Two-goal performances by Alex Gacek and Blake Coleman staked Miami to a 4-1 lead through two periods of play in Friday’s series opener, but BSU stormed back with three goals in the third period, including the tying goal with 43 seconds remaining, to force a 4-4 tie. (Recap) Undeterred, the RedHawks sprinted out of the gate in the series finale, scoring a school-record 11 seconds in with freshman Devin Loe netting his first-collegiate goal. Loe and Alex Wideman scored two goals apiece, but the night belonged to junior captain Austin Czarnik. The Washington, Mich., native dished out a career-high five assists and became the 48th player in school history to eclipse 100 career points in a 6-3 victory. (RecapThis Week: The RedHawks are back at home to play their final series of the 2013 calendar year when they host conference foe Denver at Steve Cady Arena on Friday and Saturday. Friday’s opener starts at 7:35 p.m. with Saturday’s finale beginning at 7:05 p.m.

Women’s Basketball

Last Week: Miami dropped a pair of home games last week to two very tough opponents. The RedHawks held the high-powered Duquesne offense in check for more than a half, but a 17-0 run in the middle of the second half proved to be the difference in a 78-58 Dukes win on Tuesday. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) Miami led the majority of the game against a Florida State team that is ranked just outside of the top 25, but the Seminoles were able to pull away in the last three minutes to take a 71-62 victory Sunday in Millett Hall. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) This Week: Miami begins a four-game road trip with two contests this week. On Wednesday, the RedHawks travel to Youngstown State for a 5:15 p.m. tip.
