Football

Last Week: Miami dropped a 24-17 decision to the Akron Zips on Saturday inside Yager Stadium. (Recap). It was the Zips’ first win in Oxford since 1939. After falling behind by a margin of 24-7 the RedHawks got a 44-yard touchdown catch from junior Dawan Scott and recovered the onside kick moments later. After a pair of first downs, Kaleb Patterson drilled a 52-yard field goal to get the Red and White to within a single touchdown, but could not convert on the next on-side kick opportunity. Hockey

Last Week: The top-ranked Miami hockey team split a weekend series with No. 6 North Dakota in a historic weekend. The contest on Friday was the first in the history of the National Collegiate Hockey Conference, a game North Dakota won 4-2. (Recap) On the following night, Miami scored five goals in less than 30 minutes and walked away with a 6-2 win for the weekend split. In Miami’s win Blake Coleman recorded a natural hat trick, scoring three goals in the second period alone. Ryan McKay stopped 34-of-36 shots to improve to 2-0-0 on the season. Soccer

Last Week: Junior Kelsey Dinges scored three goals last weekend to spur Miami to a pair of 2-0 shutouts against Northern Illinois (Recap) and Toledo (Recap). Dinges scored both goals in the second half against the Rockets on Sunday. Senior goalkeeper Allison Norenberg added to her Miami career record for shutouts, upping her total to 20 after notching two over the weekend. Norenberg also tied the single season record for shutouts, which she equaled a season ago. In each of its eight wins this season, Miami has recorded a shutout. Miami is on a seven-match unbeaten streak, which includes five straight shutouts. This Week: The RedHawks conclude a three-match home stretch on Friday, Oct. 25, hosting Central Michigan at 3 p.m. Miami then hits the road for matches at Bowling Green on Sunday, Oct. 27 and at Ball State on Thursday, Oct. 31 to round out the regular season.

 

Volleyball

Last Week: Miami split a pair of Mid-American Conference matches at home last week. Showing a lot of heart and determination, Miami was able to earn a gritty, 3-2 (31-29, 25-22, 19-25, 16-25, 15-10), victory over Eastern Michigan Thursday evening. (Recap) The RedHawks dropped a 1-3 decision (18-25, 25-22, 21-25, 22-25) to Central Michigan Friday evening in Millett Hall. (Recap) (Photo Gallery)  This Week: The RedHawks begin a four-match road swing this weekend, traveling to Toledo on Friday and Ball State on Saturday. Both matches begin at 7 p.m.

Field Hockey

Last Week: The field hockey team split its two matches over the weekend. Miami had its penalty corner game going on Saturday, and it used it to earn a 5-2 victory over Missouri State. (Recap) The RedHawks put up another strong performance against a ranked opponent, but ultimately fell, 3-1, to 18th-ranked Iowa on Sunday. (Recap) Prior to their games last week, junior back Ali Froede was honored as MAC Defensive Player of the Week for her efforts in Miami’s win over Ball State last week. (Release) This Week: Miami hits the road for a pair of key MAC matches. On Wednesday, the RedHawks travel to Athens for a 5 p.m. match against Ohio. Miami then heads to Kent State on Sunday for a noon showdown.

Golf

Last Week: The team was idle last week. This Week: The RedHawks return to action when they travel to Beallsville, Md. for the Georgetown Intercollegiate, Oct. 21-22 for their final tournament of the fall. Miami will play 36 holes on Monday and finish with one final round of 18 holes on Saturday.

Women’s Cross Country

Last Week: The Miami women’s cross country team racked up career- and season-highs at the 2013 Pre-National Invitational, placing 24th out of a competitive 49-team field. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle this week and returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it travels to Bowling Green for the MAC Championship.

Men’s Cross Country

Last Week: In its final meet before the 2013 Mid-American Conference Championship, the Miami men’s cross country team ran a challenging race at the Pre-Nationals Invitational hosted by Indiana State University on the LaVern Gibson Cross Country Course. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle this week and returns to action on Saturday, Nov. 2 when it travels to Bowling Green for the MAC Championship.

Men’s Swimming and Diving

Last Week: Miami looked impressive in its home opener against Xavier, winning 130-125 at Nixon Aquatic Center. The final score doesn’t accurately reflect the men’s performance as they won nine of 15 events including the first five of the day. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle this week.

Women’s Swimming and Diving

Last Week: Miami spilt a pair of meets over the weekend. The RedHawks began the 2013-14 season with a loss to Purdue, 177-116, at the Nixon Aquatic Center. Freshman Stephanie LeMire and senior Nikki Craft were the only RedHawks to win individual events. (Recap) Miami got back on track with a dominating performance en route to a 158-95 win over Xavier in the Nixon Aquatic Center on Saturday. Miami posted first-place finishes in all 14 events. This Week: Miami travels to Akron for a 1 p.m. meet on Saturday, Oct. 26.

The RedHawk women’s tennis team began play at the USTA/ITA Ohio Valley Regional and continues action Monday and Tuesday this week.
