OXFORD, Ohio – After strong single-day performances last weekend, freshman field hockey midfielder Carla Romagosa and senior runner Dave Wing are Miami’s Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of Sept. 28-Oct. 3.
Romagosa was the star of Miami’s 2-0 win over Michigan State on Sunday. She scored the game’s first goal in the 40th minute, which proved to be the game winner. In order to provide some insurance, she set up junior Ali Froede for a great goal on a penalty corner in the 57th minute to give the RedHawks a 2-0 win. She led Miami with three shots on the day. Romagosa was also named Mid-American Conference Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts.
This is the first time in Romagosa’s career she has been named Miami’s Female Athlete of the Week.
Continuing as Miami’s top finisher this season, Wing took second overall in the All-Ohio Championship on Friday behind Cedarville’s Matt Brooker in 25:03.56. While second overall, he was the top finisher from the Division 1 schools present at the meet. It was the fourth consecutive race he was Miami’s top runner.
This is the fourth time this season that Wing has been named Miami’s Male Athlete of the Week. He has won the award each time the cross country team has competed in a race.
