Last Week: The Miami football team dropped a 50-14 decision to Illinois on Saturday. The RedHawks posted season-bests in total offense (250) and first downs (14) in the loss. The highlights of the game were Austin Gearing, who ran for 81 yards on 16 carries, while Brison Burris and TJ Williams recorded their first interceptions of the season. (Recap) This Week: Miami faces Central Michigan on Saturday, Oct. 5 in Miami’s MAC opener. The contest will begin at 1 p.m. (Gameday Central) There is a special ticket offer for this weekend’s game. Last Week: Miami opened Mid-American Conference with a pair of tough five-set losses to two of the favorites to win the league this season. It was a back-and-forth match that saw the Miami University volleyball team nearly knock off the defending Mid-American Conference Tournament Champions, but ultimately the RedHawks fell to Bowling Green, 2-3 (25-19, 26-24, 24-26, 22-25, 16-18), to open league play Thursday evening. (Recap) (Photo Gallery) The RedHawks took Western Michigan to five sets on Saturday, but the RedHawks  ultimately fell, 2-3(25-13, 17-25, 27-29, 25-20, 10-15). (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks hit the road for a pair of MAC matches this week. Miami travels to Athens Friday for the “Battle of the Bricks” to take on 22nd-ranked Ohio at 7 p.m. The ‘Hawks then head to Kent State Saturday for a 7 p.m. match.

Field Hockey

Last Week: The RedHawks were 1-2 during a busy week against tough opposition. Prior to getting underway with this week’s action, junior Valentina Neira was named MAC Offensive Player of the Week and senior goalkeeper Sarah Mueller was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week for their play in a win over Ohio State last week. (Release) The Miami University field hockey team used a four-goal second half to break a scoreless tie and earn a 4-1 victory over UC Davis on Tuesday. Junior back Ali Froede scored the first two goals to lead Miami to the win. (Recap) The RedHawks nearly completed a spirited comeback from a two-goal halftime deficit, but it ultimately fell to Indiana, 3-2, Friday afternoon. (Recap) Miami had an early lead against another ranked opponent on Saturday, but a second half goal gave eighth-ranked Penn State a 2-1 victory in a neutral site game in Bloomington, Ind. (Recap) This Week: The RedHawks are scheduled to travel to Ohio on Saturday for a noon start. Women’s Soccer

Last Week: Miami put an end to a five-game losing streak and earned its first Mid-American Conference win of the season with a 1-0 win over Buffalo Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium. Senior forward Katy Dolesh scored the game-winner in the 48th minute and fellow senior goalkeeper Allison Norenberg kept the Bulls off the scoreboard for her third shutout of the season. (Recap) On Friday, the RedHawk suffered a 2-1 loss in their MAC opener at Akron. (Recap) This Week: Miami returns home to host Ohio at 4 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 4 and Kent State on Sunday, Oct. 6.


Last Week: The golf team was idle this week. This Week: The team is off this week and will return to action with the Firestone Invitational, Oct. 7-8.

Women’s Cross Country

Last Week: Miami was idle this week. This Week: The RedHawks return to action at the All-Ohio Championships in Cedarville on Oct. 4 and the Greater Louisville Classic on Oct. 5.

Men’s Cross Country

Softball continues fall exhibition play with a pair of games in the Ohio Charity Classic in Columbus on Saturday. The RedHawks will take on Wright State at 10 a.m. and Dayton at 2:30 p.m.


This Week: Miami hockey gets started on Saturday, Oct. 5, at 8:05 p.m. versus Windsor inside Steve Cady Arena in an exhibition game. Miami opens the 2013-14 season with an Oct. 11 trip to Ohio State. Those same two teams will play in Oxford the following night at 7:05 p.m.

Women’s Tennis

Last Week: Miami hosted the Miami Fall Invitational over the weekend. Over the two-day, round-robin-style tournament, RedHawk players battled against individuals from Bowling Green, Louisville and Xavier. Miami players ended up combining to win 15 of 19 singles matches and four of nine doubles matches throughout the weekend. (Recap) This Week: Miami is idle until ITA Ohio Valley Regional Oct. 17-21.

Miami lost a Cradle of Coaches legend last week with the passing of Paul Dietzel. He was an All-American at Miami and went on to coach a national championship team and serve as an athletic director at nine different universities and one collegiate conference. (Story)

This weekend Miami Athletics will induct six outstanding individuals into the Hall of Fame and honor eight student-athletes with its annual awards. Heather Cusick ’03 (women’s basketball), Dave Dixon ‘92 (men’s swimming), Larry Janis ’64 (wrestling), Andrea Kremer ’04 (women’s cross country/track & field), Amy Miranda ’04 (women’s swimming) and Jessica Stout ’98 (volleyball) are the Hall of Fame Class of 2013-14. (Release) Earning Male Athlete of the Year was Austin Czarnik (hockey), while the Female Athlete of the Year was Jess Kodiak (soccer). Brad Bednar (football) was named Male Scholar-Athlete of the Year, while Katie Scannell (track and field) was named Female Scholar-Athlete of the Year. The Phillip Shriver Culture of Champions Medal of Honor - which is presented to an outstanding graduating male and female student-athlete who have been members of a championship team during their careers, along with being leaders and epitomizing Love and Honor – has been awarded to Steven Spinell (hockey) and Stacia Schacter (swimming and diving). The Darrell Hedric Award was earned by Vince Legarza (basketball), while Lisa Treadway (volleyball) captured the Leann Grimes Davidge Award. (Release)
