Last Week: Miami was off last week. This Week: Miami will host Cincinnati this Saturday at 4 p.m. inside Yager Stadium as the two teams compete for the 118th time. The RedHawks lead the all-time series at 59-51-7 over the Bearcats. There are several promotions and events fans should be aware of. First, fans are encouraged to wear white to the contest as Miami football plans to #WhiteOutUC. (Buy Tickets) There is also a Domino's offer available, and faculty and staff tickets are discounted until Friday at 6 p.m. Fans should also be aware that the Illinois kick-off is set for noon on Sept. 28.
Last Week: Miami improved its record to 8-1 when it won the Billiken Challenge over the weekend. It was the third consecutive tournament title for the RedHawks. Junior outside hitter/setter Meg Riley was named MVP at the tournament. Sophomore outside hitter Annie Reiswig and freshman setter Krista Brakauskas each were named to the All-Tournament Team. Miami’s five-match win streak to begin the season came to an end on Tuesday with a 0-3 (20-25, 22-25, 21-25) loss to Xavier. (Recap) In an extremely hard-fought match, the Miami came from behind to defeat Saint Louis, 3-2 (22-25, 25-21, 18-25, 25-19, 17-15) to open the Billiken Challenge on Friday. (Recap) Saturday morning, the team took the first two sets, and then had to withstand a comeback by Bradley. The RedHawks were up to the task as they won the fifth set to earn a 3-2 (26-24, 25-13, 26-28, 22-25, 15-10) win. (Recap) For the third straight match it took five sets, but Miami won the Billiken Challenge with a 3-2 (25-16, 27-25, 19-25, 16-25, 15-9) victory over Youngstown State Saturday evening. (Recap) Earlier in the week, Jenny Ingle was named MAC East Division Offensive Player of the Week for her efforts in helping Miami win its home invitational (Release) This Week: Miami travels to Evanston, Ill. for the Wildcat Classic this weekend. On Friday, the RedHawks take on IUPUI at 11 a.m. (EDT) and the host, Northwestern, at 8 p.m. (EDT). On Saturday, Miami concludes the tournament against USF at 9 p.m. (EDT).
Last Week: Miami Soccer faced a pair of tough opponents and dropped both contests at home in heart-breaking fashion. On Friday, in a high-scoring, back-and-forth affair, that included three lead changes and three ties, the RedHawks fell to Milwaukee in the closing minutes, 4-3, as the Panthers scored twice in the final 10 minutes. Junior midfielder Kelsey Dinges led the way with a goal and an assist. (RECAP) On Sunday, Miami was involved in another 4-3 contest, this time being edged by Big Ten foe Purdue in double overtime. Senior midfielder Katy Dolesh scored two goals while classmate Kayla Zakrzewski assisted on each. Sophomore midfielder Haley Walter also scored a goal for the fourth straight game. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks are back in action this Sunday when Miami concludes non-conference play at former Mid-American Conference rival Marshall. Kickoff is set for noon in Huntington, W.Va. Dolesh was also named MAC Co-Offensive Player of the Week on Monday. (RELEASE)
Women’s Cross Country
Last Week: Junior Jess Hooverled the way for the Miami women’s cross country team for a second straight week, finishing first for the RedHawks and third overall at the Mel Brodt Collegiate Invitational hosted by Bowling Green Friday night. The RedHawks ran well as a team against MAC competitors Bowling Green, Toledo, Ball State and Eastern Michigan, though no team scoring was kept. Junior Anna Lamb placed seventh while redshirt junior Melissa Girgis took ninth. (RECAP) Hoover was also named MAC Runner of the Week for the first time in her career on Thursday after winning the Miami Invitational Sept. 7. (RELEASE) This Week: The RedHawks return to action this Friday, Sept. 20 for the Wake Forest Invitational in Winston Salem, N.C. The race will begin at 4 p.m. ET.
Men’s Cross Country
Last Week: Miami’s men’s cross country team faced a tough test last Saturday morning at the Bluegrass Cross Country Invitational, hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington. Competing in its first 8K of the 2013 season, Miami finished ahead of Mid-American Conference foe Akron and rival Cincinnati, taking fifth overall behind the likes of No. 1 Oklahoma State and No. 11 Eastern Kentucky. Senior Dave Wing paced the RedHawks in the Bluegrass Invitational, finishing in 11th place in a career-best 24:17.21, while senior Matt Marol was Miami’s second finisher for the third consecutive time this season, taking 23rd overall in 24:48.60, also a personal best. (RECAP) On Thursday, Wing was named MAC Runner of the Week for the second consecutive week after winning the Miami Invitational Sept. 7. (RELEASE) A day earlier on Wednesday, Marol captured MAC Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors. (RELEASE) Next Time: The RedHawks will spend the next couple weeks training, and then will compete at the All-Ohio Championships Friday, Oct. 4 in Cedarville, Ohio. The race will begin at 4 p.m.
Last Week: Field hockey went 1-2 last week with all three opponents ranked in the top 20. On Monday, Miami had its opportunities to score, but a strong defensive game from 11th-ranked Northwestern led the Wildcats to a 3-0 victory. (Recap) On Saturday, a great second-half effort allowed the RedHawks to overcame a two-goal deficit and defeat 20th-ranked American, 3-2, to open the Terp Invitational. (Recap) Facing the NCAA’s highest scoring offense and a team that has won two of the past three National Championships, Miami fell to second-ranked Maryland, 6-0, on Sunday to conclude play at the Terp Invitational. (Recap) For her performance the previous week, senior back Jordan Long was named MAC Defensive Player of the Week (Release) This Week: After playing its first seven games on the road with five of them coming against teams in the top 20, Miami has its home opener Wednesday against Ohio State. Game time is scheduled for 5:30 p.m., and it can be seen live on Miami All-Access for those who have a subscription.

Hockey will be hosting its Fan Appreciation Pep Rally on Tuesday night, Sept. 17 at Goggin Ice Center. The program is free to the public and begins at 7 p.m. The pep rally portion of the program begins at 8:15 p.m. (RELEASE) The RedHawks were also ranked No. 2 in the College Hockey News Preseason Top 10 last week. Miami swimming and diving will have a pair of meets this weekend. On Saturday morning, the women's team will host the Red & White Intrasquad/Alumni meet and the men's team will host the Red & White Intrasquad meet. Both meets are scheduled for 10 a.m.
Women’s tennis will play in the Ball State Invitational this weekend before hosting the Miami Invitational next weekend on Sept. 28 and 29.
Softball opens its fall exhibition season at home on Friday when it hosts Ohio Domincan at 6 p.m. The RedHawks face Northern Kentucky at 11 a.m. and Urbana at 3 p.m. on Sunday.
