Last week: Making his first start in over a month, freshman goaltender Ryan McKay stopped all 26 shots he faced to lead the No. 4 Miami hockey team to a 4-0 shutout over Alaska Saturday night at the Carlson Center, completing a weekend sweep. The RedHawks (9-2-3, 6-2-2-2 CCHA), who won 5-2 Friday, earned their first CCHA sweep of the year while defeating the Nanooks (6-7-3, 4-6-2-0 CCHA) for the sixth straight time (FULL STORY). This week: The RedHawks return home to host Lake Superior State in a two-game CCHA series Friday and Saturday, Dec. 7-8 at Steve Cady Arena. Puck drop is 7:35 p.m. Friday and 7:05 p.m. Saturday.
Last week: Junior forward Will Felder scored a career-high 15 points, but a Mario Hines' layup with two seconds remaining lifted IPFW to a 57-56 victory over Miami Saturday night at Memorial Coliseum (FULL STORY). This week: The RedHawks (3-3) continue their four-game road swing with contests against Evansville and Dayton Wednesday, Dec. 5 and Saturday, Dec. 8, respectively. Wednesday's game starts at 8:05 p.m., while Saturday's begins at 8 p.m.
Last week: The RedHawks split a pair of games at No. 9 Kentucky and at home against UMass. Miami fell to the Wildcats, 92-53, on Wednesday (FULL STORY), but downed the Minutemen, 50-40, on Saturday (FULL STORY). This week: The 'Hawks host Wright State Tuesday, Dec. 4 at 1 p.m., before traveling to play Cleveland State Saturday, Dec. 8 at 2 p.m.
Swimming & Diving
Last week: The team titles for the 19th Annual Miami Invitational belong to Miami's women and to Emory's men. Coach Dave Jennings' RedHawk women cruised to the championship, nearly doubling runner-up Emory, 2753.5 to 1459.5 (FULL STORY). Coach Pete Lindsay's Miami men's squad nipped Western Kentucky, 1275 to 1272, but placed behind first-place Emory (1772.5), runner-up Denison (1687.5) and third-place Cincinnati (1508.5) (FULL STORY). Coming up: The RedHawks are idle until Thursday, Jan. 3 when they travel to face James Madison in Boca Raton, Fla.
Last week: Dominant performances were the order of the day for all three Miami University synchronized skating teams on the final day of the season-opening competition for the RedHawks. The Miami senior and collegiate teams each placed first in their respective divisions at the Dr. Richard Porter Classic, while the junior team boasted a second-place showing in the free skate and finished third overall for the competition (FULL STORY). Coming up: All three teams are off until traveling to Fraser, Mich., Jan. 11-12. The junior team will compete at the Junior World Qualifier Jan. 11-12, while the senior and collegiate teams will be competing in the same location at the Mid-America Championships Jan. 12-13.
This week HawkTawk will be held Thursday at 7 p.m. at Kroger. All fans and students are welcome to attend.
