Football

Last week: The Miami football team (0-1) lost its season opener 56-10 to 18th-ranked The Ohio State University in Columbus (RECAP). This week: The RedHawks play their home opener against Southern Illinois (0-1) at Yager Stadium at 1 p.m. Season tickets are still available starting at just $70. To order, call 513-529-4295.


Women's Soccer

Last week: Miami (4-1-0) fought through wind and rain to earn a tough 2-1 overtime victory against Belmont (3-2-0) on Sunday afternoon at Rose Park. Kelsey Dinges scored the game-winner just three minutes into the extra session (RECAP). This week: The RedHawks host Austin Peay on Friday, Sept. 7 at 5 p.m.


Field Hockey

Last week: Miami dropped a pair of close contests to Stanford and Michigan State on Saturday and Sunday, respectively, in East Lansing, Mich. The RedHawks (0-4) lost to No. 11 Stanford 3-0 (RECAP) and were edged by Michigan State 1-0 (RECAP). This week: Miami returns to action hosting three games over the weekend. The RedHawks host Longwood on Saturday, Sept. 8 at 11 a.m., before playing a home doubleheader against Ball State and Ohio State on Sunday, Sept. 9. Sunday's games will be held at noon and 1 p.m., respectively.


Volleyball

Last week: Miami played three games in the Diet Coke Classic in Minneapolis. The RedHawks (1-5) made a great comeback attempt against Albany, but fell 2-3 in five sets (RECAP). On Saturday, Miami lost to 16th-ranked Minnesota 0-3 (RECAP) and fell to Long Island University-Brooklyn 0-3 in the afternoon tilt (RECAP). This week: The RedHawks return to action on Tuesday as they host Xavier at Millet Hall at 7 p.m. Miami will then host its annual Best Western/Sycamore Inn Invitational, Sept. 7-8. The RedHawks play Indiana State on Friday, Sept. 7 at 7 p.m. and two games on Saturday, Sept. 8 against Chicago State and Temple. Saturday's games will be played at 10 a.m. and 7:30 p.m., respectively.  


Men's & Women's Cross Country

Last week: The Miami men's and women's cross country teams both opened their seasons Saturday at the Dayton Flyer 5k Challenge in Kettering, Ohio. For the men, senior Jarrod Eick captured the individual title for the second straight year. The RedHawks placed second overall with 39 points (RECAP). For the women, sophomore Jess Hoover placed fourth, leading Miami to a second-place finish (RECAP). This week: The men's and women's cross country teams both have a week off. The women travel to the Spartan Invitational in East Lansing, Mich. Friday, Sept. 14, while the men are scheduled to compete in the Commodore Classic in Nashville, Tenn. on Saturday, Sept. 15.


Ice Hockey

Last week: Individual tickets for the Hockey City Classic will go on sale to the general public at 11 a.m. ET/10 a.m. CT on Monday, Oct. 1.  Tickets are valid for both games and may be purchased at Ticketmaster.com, by calling 1-800-745-3000 or at Ticketmaster outlets.  The Hockey City Classic will showcase an outdoor college hockey doubleheader at Soldier Field on Feb. 17, 2013.  The puck drops at 1 p.m. ET/noon CT when Notre Dame faces off against Miami, followed immediately by Minnesota vs. Wisconsin at approximately 4:30 p.m. ET/3:30 p.m. CT (MORE DETAILS). Also, former Miami hockey player and current member of the Los Angeles Kings Alec Martinez ('09) celebrated a day with the Staley Cup (STORY). Next Month: The 2012-13 season is still more than a month away. The RedHawks start with an exhibition game Sunday, Oct. 7 against Western Ontario, which will be followed by the team's season opener vs. Colgate Friday, Oct. 12. Both games will be played at the Goggin Ice Center in Oxford.
