Last Week: Miami (30-29) began its MAC Tournament stint as senior Shawn Marquardt scattered five hits in a complete-game effort, leading seventh-seeded Miami to a 5-0 shutout of No. 2 Toledo in the opening round of the tourney Wednesday afternoon at All-Pro Freight Stadium in Avon, Ohio. (RECAP) Kevin Bower's two-out base hit through the right side of the infield drove in Ryan Curl from second base, lifting Miami to a 2-1 victory over Eastern Michigan in 10 innings Thursday night and advancing the RedHawks in the winner’s bracket. (RECAP) After a two-hour delay to the start of Friday’s game against Central Michigan, the RedHawks were clipped 11-10 in a game that ran until 1:12 a.m. (RECAP) Miami’s season ended with a 7-0 loss to the Chippewas on Saturday afternoon. (RECAP) Bryce Redeker, Shawn Marquardt and Mac Thoreson all earned MAC All-Tournament Team honors. Freshman outfielder Matt Honchel was named the MAC Freshman of the Year and also earned First-Team All-MAC honors, while junior first baseman Kevin Bower was a Second-Team All-MAC pick. Tori Paterra advances to the NCAA Championships in the javelin.

Last Week: Sophomore javelin thrower Tori Paterra will be making a return trip to the NCAA Outdoor Track & Field Championships after clinching a spot with a fifth-place finish last Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, held at the University of North Florida's Hodges Stadium. Seniors Alexandra Roberts, Kelley Miller and Rachael Clay and junior Layne Baggett also competed at the NCAA East Prelims with Roberts, Miller and Clay closing out their careers as RedHawks. Last Week: Four members of the men’s track and field team closed out their season last Thursday at the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds, as senior Nathan Hoch, junior Jarrod Eick and sophomores Jahquil Hargrove and Rob Stein each competed at the University of North Florida’s Hodges Stadium, (RECAP) while seniors Jordan Goffena and Adam Ruiz finished their RedHawk track and field careers with strong showings in the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds Friday. Five esteemed individuals will join Miami University's Cradle of Coaches Association with their induction on Saturday, Sept. 22. Randy Ayers, Thad Matta, Joe Novak, Sandy Pearsall and Sue Ramsey comprise the Cradle of Coaches Class of 2012-13. (RELEASE)
