Miami upset fifth-ranked Tennessee, marking just the second NCAA Tournament win for the RedHawks in program history.

Last Week: In the opening round of the Knoxville Regional of the NCAA Tournament, Miami (41-20) upset host and fifth-ranked Tennessee, 1-0, on Friday to advance in the winner’s bracket. Senior pitcher Jessica Simpson limited the Lady Vols to five hits as Miami won an NCAA Tournament game for just the second time in program history. (RECAP) The RedHawks fell to Virginia Tech in its second NCAA Regional game, 6-0, on Saturday afternoon (RECAP) and had their season end with an 8-0, six-inning loss to Tennessee on Saturday evening. (RECAP) Earlier in the week, Simpson was named to the NFCA All-Region First Team. (RELEASE) Miami set several single-season records in 2012. Its 41 wins overall and 16 Mid-American Conference victories were both the most in program history, while the five-player senior class of Jessica Simpson, Jordan McElroy, Daniela Torres, Casey Drees and Katie Osburn finished with 139 wins, 18 more than any other class in Miami softball history. Last Week: Winning two of the three-game series at Ohio last week, Miami (28-27; 12-15 MAC) secured a spot in this week’s MAC Tournament. Max Andresen tied a career-high with three hits, including a two-run single in the sixth, lifting Miami to a 5-2 victory over the Bobcats Thursday night at Bob Wren Stadium. (RECAP) A one-out single brought home the winning run in the bottom of the ninth, giving Ohio a 5-4 victory over Miami Friday night. (RECAP) Freshman Matt Honchel drove in two runs with three hits and Andresen drove in two with a bases-loaded double in the first, leading Miami to a 6-3 victory over Ohio in the 2012 regular-season finale Saturday afternoon. (RECAP) This Week: The RedHawks are the No. 7 seed in the MAC Tournament and will open their stint facing No. 2 seed Toledo at 4 p.m. Wednesday, May 23 in Avon, Ohio. (MAC TOURNAMENT BRACKET)

Ten RedHawk track and field athletes have qualified in a combined 12 events for the NCAA East Preliminary Rounds this weekend (May 24-26) in Jacksonville, Fla. An athlete must be among the top 48 in their respective event in the East Region to qualify. From the men’s team, sophomores Jahquil Hargrove and Rob Stein and seniors Jordan Goffena, Nathan Hoch and Adam Ruiz each earned a berth. (RELEASE) From the women’s team, junior Layne Baggett, seniors Rachael Clay, Kelley Miller and Alexandra Roberts and sophomore Tori Paterra each earned a spot. (RELEASE)
