OXFORD, Ohio—As Miami University Athletics gears up for its first competition in less than two weeks, the department has high expectations for 2013-14 after coming off one of the best fundraising efforts in its history.

“We are excited about the foundation and base we have established to move our programs forward in making a difference for our student-athletes and coaches,” said Miami University Director of Athletics David Sayler. “With increased human resources, we are setting our goals very high toward the future, particularly as we look to announce major initiatives for athletic fundraising in 2014.”

For just the third time since the creation of athletic fundraising at Miami University, the RedHawk Athletic Development Staff secured gifts of $4 million in total cash, while the Red & White Club enjoyed the best cash total in its history, exceeding $700,000.

Miami Athletics received lead gifts on major facility projects for the weight room at Steve Cady Arena and the baseball Legacy Project. With an initial goal of $50 million as part of the For Love and Honor Campaign, Miami Athletics topped the $60 million mark. As a department, several individual team fundraising marks were also surpassed, including synchronized skating’s Future Champions Fund.

In addition to the fundraising efforts, a new Senior Development Officer in Coleman Barnes was hired for athletics. He will be hiring additional fundraising staff in the coming months to bolster the efforts to make 2013-14 a record-breaking year in all fundraising facets.

The future is bright for Miami Athletics but will only reach its pinnacle with continued support. To donate to the Red & White Club or make another gift to Miami Athletics, contact the Miami Athletic Development Office at (513) 529-8097, email RWClub@MiamiOH.edu or click HERE.
