OXFORD, Ohio – After dominating their competition at meets over the weekend, the Miami Athletes of the Week connected by Frontier Communications for the week of April 22-28 are sophomore runner Anna Lamb for the women and junior thrower Rob Stein on the men’s side.

Running the 10,000m run for just the second time in her career, Lamb (Granville, Ohio) won the 10K at the famed Drake Relays Thursday night in a school-record time of 34:35.39. She ran away from the field, winning the 36-woman race by 21 seconds ahead of Oakland’s Brittni Hutton, who was the runner-up. Mississippi’s Kayleigh Skinner was third in 34:59.20, while the field included runners from across the country, including several Big Ten runners. Lamb shattered Miami’s previous school record of 34:48.24 by 13 seconds, which was set by Michelle Slykhuis at the 1985 Mid-American Conference Championships. Lamb’s time ranks second in the MAC this year and 25th in the East Region. She improved her time 30 seconds from the first time she ran the 10K a few weeks ago when she also finished first.

Lamb has now earned Miami Female Athlete of the Week twice this year and in her career, also collecting it for the week of Jan. 28 to Feb. 3 when she won the 5K at the Akron Invitational.

Stein (Villa Park, Ill.) was rock solid at the RedHawk Invitational Saturday in front of his home fans, winning all three throws events in which he participated. He won the discus with a toss of 52.24m/171-4.75, claimed the hammer throw with a heave of 54.44m/178-7 and took first in the shot put with a throw of 15.62m/51-3. By winning all three events, he totaled 30 points to help Miami dominate the meet en route to the team title. In the shot put, he was first out of eight and won by almost three feet. In the discus, he was first out of 18 and won by a whopping 13 feet. In the hammer throw, he narrowly won in a field of 14. The hammer and discus throws were his second-best throws of the season for each as he ranks in the top four in the MAC this year in all three events. He had just one event win all season entering Saturday’s meet (coming in the discus).

The Miami Male Athlete of the Week honor is the first of Stein’s career while he is the second Miami men’s track and field athlete to claim the accolade this season (John Cantwell).

Lamb and the women’s track and field team return to action when they tune up for the MAC Championships on Friday (May 3) at Indiana’s Billy Hayes Invitational, as do Stein and the men’s team. Following the Indiana meet, Lamb, Stein and the rest of the RedHawks then compete for a MAC title at the MAC Championships May 9-11 in Akron, Ohio.
