OXFORD, Ohio—Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team wrapped up competition in the Tim Meyers Ohio Senior Championships held at the Nixon Aquatic Center over the weekend. Miami hosted the meet involving numerous swim teams from around the state.
The men began their competition Saturday with a second-place finish in the 400 medley relay, as the women did. The men’s relay team featured senior Mike Kline, senior Will Olson, freshman Maximilian Jelen and freshman Jack Strauss who finished with a time of 3:22.91.
Kline then had Miami’s best finish in the 200 backstroke, taking fifth-place with a time of 1:52.44.
Strauss finished first-place in the 100 freestyle, setting a new meet record with a time of 44.61. Freshman Connor Cashman added a fifteenth-place finish, finishing with a 47.38 time.
In the 200 breaststroke, Olson led the RedHawks with a sixth-place finish and a time of 2:07.18.
In the 200 freestyle relay, Strauss, Olson, Cashman and freshman Jared Higdon finished with a time of 1:24.24, which was good enough for third-place.
Freshman Bryan McNamara had the top time for the RedHawks in the 1650 freestyle with a time of 15:50.01. He finished fourth.
Kline, Olson, Jelen and Strauss finished second in the 200 medley relay with a time of 1:33.96.
McNamara was the top finisher for the RedHawks in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:42.75.
Strauss and Kline took third and fourth in the 100 backstroke. Strauss swam a 50.66. Kline finished with a time of 50.97. Jelen added a sixth-place finish for the RedHawks (51.48).
Higdon took seventh-place in the 200 butterfly with a time of 1:54.39.
Olson, Higdon, McNamara and Cashman took second in the 400 freestyle relay with a time of 3:09.92 to the close the meet.
The RedHawks kick off the MAC Championships on Thursday, Mar. 6, at the University at Buffalo, beginning at 11 a.m.
