Ann Arbor, Mich. – The Miami University men’s golf team is in fifth place after two rounds at the Wolverine Intercollegiate Tournament Monday. The RedHawks are currently at eight-over par after shooting a 292 in the morning and a 284 in the afternoon round. They are only five shots behind the leader, Michigan State, which is at three-over par.

“I’m pleased with our play today, particularly in the afternoon,” said coach Zedrick. “This was our first 36-hole day of the year and to play even better in the afternoon says a lot about the progress we’re making.”

Sophomore Jack Sparling had the best day among the RedHawks. Shooting a 72 in the morning and a 70 in the afternoon round, Sparling is currently tied for eighth at even par coming into the final round of the tournament.

Junior Luke Shaughnessy is the next on the leader board for Miami. He shot rounds of 73 and 70 and is tied for 10th at one-over par. Close behind is junior Scott Cahill, who is tied for 14th at two-over par and senior Mark MacDonald, who is tied for 28th with five-over par. Sophomore Daniel Schwarz is tied for 35th at seven-over par.

“Tomorrow’s a great opportunity, but it means focusing on taking care of our business,” said Zedrick. “We have no control over what the other teams are doing. It’s about trusting that us going out and playing well takes care of everything else.”

The Wolverine Intercollegiate Tournament concludes with its final round on Tuesday.
