BOWLING GREEN, Ohio - With roughly half of the team in Lexington, Ky. for the Rod McCravy Memorial, the remaining members of the Miami University women's track and field team combined to post four event wins Friday evening at the Tom Wright Classic, hosted by Bowling Green at Perry Field House. The RedHawks competed against Mid-American Conference foes Ohio and the host Falcons, as well as Wayne State, at the meet.
Miami dominated the throws events, finishing in spots 1-4 in the shot put with redshirt senior Alexandra Roberts (Hilliard, Ohio) winning the event with a heave of 14.09m/46-2.75. Junior Tori Paterra (Elizabeth, Pa.) took second with a toss of 13.30m/43-7.75, matching her season best. Sophomore Adaora Anunike (Galena, Ohio) was third (13.13m/43-1) while redshirt senior Samantha Gable (Greenfield, Ind.) was fourth (12.87m/42-2.75). Gable placed first in the weight throw, however, with a heave of 16.49m/54-1.25.
The RedHawks captured the top two spots in the pole vault, led by junior Kori Tatman (Amanda, Ohio), who cleared a season-best 3.80m/12-5.5 to win the event. Sophomore Taylor Brown (Hilliard, Ohio) continued to improve each week, as she was second, topping the bar at a personal-best 3.65m/11-11.75, which ranks her seventh in school history.
Junior Erin Riley (Avon Lake, Ohio) claimed first in the 800m run, finishing with a time of 2:20.25, winning the race by over two seconds.
Sophomore Jasmine Watts (Carmel, Ind.) finished second in the 60m dash in a personal-best 7.89 after qualifying second in the prelims as well. She picked up a second runner-up finish in the long jump with a season-best leap of 5.29m/17-4.25. Freshman Jess Baker (Aurora, Ohio) earned another runner-up showing for the 'Hawks in the high jump, clearing 1.55m/5-1.
Miami grabbed fifth and seventh in the 60m hurdles as junior Xerina Hughey (Galloway, Ohio) posted a time of 9.33 in the finals while freshman Taylor Reid (Cincinnati, Ohio) recorded a time of 10.50 in the finals after running 10.04 to qualify sixth in the prelims.
Senior Emily Mossler (Indianapolis, Ind.) took fifth in the 3000m run in a personal-best 10:20.92, smashing her previous best time by 34 seconds. In the mile run, sophomore Alex Chitwood (Carmel, Ind.) placed sixth, clocking 5:14.71 in her indoor season debut.
The remaining RedHawks compete at the Rod McCravy Memorial on Saturday at the University of Kentucky's Nutter Fieldhouse. Action in Lexington gets underway at 10 a.m. while live results are available here.
