OXFORD, Ohio—Miami’s men’s swimming and diving team defeated Ball State, 135-93, in their regular season finale at the Lewellen Aquatic Center in Muncie, Ind.

The win pushes the RedHawks overall dual meet record to 5-3 and 2-2 in the Mid-American Conference. Miami also breaks a two-meet losing streak, ending on a winning note to finish out the season.

Miami’s win over the Cardinals came courtesy of seven individual wins and two relay wins for the RedHawks. The relay team of sophomore Jacob Prodoehl, junior Sam Crockett, senior Sam Flessner and sophomore Sean Neri kicked off the meet with a win in the 400 medley relay (3:34.19). Prodoehl also was a member of the 200 freestyle relay team with junior Joe Baumgartner, freshman Grant Stafford and freshman Jack Strauss that finished first with a time of 1:26.07.

Prodoehl, Neri, sophomore Christopher Dieter, senior Michael Cavanaugh, freshman Bryan McNamara, freshman Maximilian Jelen and sophomore Michael Nash each earned individual wins for the RedHawks.

Prodoehl took first in the 100 freestyle with a time of 47.83. Dieter took third in the 100 freestyle with a time of 48.53.

Neri was victorious in the 200 backstroke with a time of 1:54.59. Stafford and senior Michael Kline took second and third. Stafford swam 1:55.29 and Kline swam 1:57.79.

Dieter took first in the 1000 freestyle (10:01.58).

Cavanaugh was a first-place finisher in the 200 freestyle with a time of 1:44.33. He finished ahead of McNamara, who took second (1:46.89), and sophomore Evan Bader, who took fourth (1:49.30). McNamara won his own individual event in the 500 freestyle with a time of 4:50.04. 

Jelen helped Miami take the top three spots in the 200 IM. Jelen took first with a time of 1:59.20 while sophomore Heshan Unamboowe took second (2:01.33). Crockett took third (2:01.87).

Nash was a winner in the one-meter diving event with 346.50 points. Freshman Sean Sargent was a second-place finisher in the event with 310.95 points.

Another notable finish was freshman Connor Cashman taking second in the 50 freestyle (22.03).

Upcoming events for the RedHawks include the Ohio Senior Championships on Friday, Feb. 28 in Oxford, Ohio starting at 9 a.m. and the MAC Championships beginning Thursday, Mar. 6, in Buffalo, NY at 11 a.m.
